I have been hearing rumbles at work about contract work in Iraq and Afghanistan. Wild tales of buku dollars for truck drivers and others.
I decided to look into what if any private contracts had been handed out for actual security and the companies who won the bids.
Any help?

I think the truck drivers are mostly Halliburton, or their subs.

Saw an interview on Fox last week with a woman from Dallas who was hired by KBR (Halliburton's subsidiary) to go to Iraq. She said she'd be making $80,000 for 4 months work...tax free! I was really surprised that it was tax free. She said she'd use it to start her own realty company when she got back, and she was pretty sure she'd get back because "only 35" of KBR's workers have been killed or taken hostage out of the thousands of employees over there. Hey, if I were single and unemployed, I think I'd go.

As far as Mideast jobs go, if someone wants more than one dollar to find you a job over there, avoid them at all cost. It's all supply and demand, and the supply is usually high for obvious reasons.

IRS tax laws require you to spend, what, all but 30-days out of the US in a year before it is tax free.
Unless there has been a change to this policy because it is a "war" zone, I think she will be taxed.
Now, one day in theater for our troops and the money they earn for that month is tax free. . .if I recall correctly.
