I am not familiar with Fr Peter West. do you know what state he is in, and is he a member of 'priests for life'?

There are similarities between political policy and pro-life principle. The moment of truth came recently in Pennsylvania when President Bush compaigned for Senator Specter and not pro-life Toomey. Politics trumped Life.

Yes, click on where it says "private e-mail..." on top of the post, there is a link. Fr. Peter grew up in NJ where he is registered to vote and is a priest from the archdiocese of Newark, NJ "on loan" to PFL until his Bishop calles him back.

Politics trumped Life. >>

It seemed that Santorum was looking out more for HIS political career than anything else, I think he's going to be #3 in terms of power in the Senate?

President Bush also appointed 6 Pro-abortion Judges to the 3rd circuit, federal bench, in NJ. The reasons listed above in the post should sway most to vote for Bush because of his pro-life record, I would hate to see Kerry in as president, many more lives would be lost as a result of abortion. And forget about any pro-life SC Justices being appointed.

You are quite right. I see that the people who usually tell us he is not pro-life are noticeably absent from this thread. I will ping a few more people...and I have bookmarked this for future use as well.

A list of accomplishments in defending the unborn would indeed be helpful. This is a list of mostly pronouncements, which, helpful as they are, do not translate into a lasting pro-life legacy.

Why the author needed to inflate his list with the Iraq policy stuff is a complete mystery.

There is no question that the President is personally pro-life and it shows in his speeches. There is no question that Kerry would be far worse. No list is required to convince us of that.

The moment of truth came recently in Pennsylvania when President Bush compaigned for Senator Specter and not pro-life Toomey. Politics trumped Life.

Like most snooks and frequent losers you want to win the battle that will cost the war. Bush has managed to get the Republican Supreme Court Justices to not retire until the next term. Had Rhenquist or some of the others retired there is no way Bush could have prevented a liberal from being put on the court.... so they are holding off.

To keep abortion from being approved by the supreme court for at least the next 30 years, Bush must have 55 Republican seats in the senate.

Even some one with a snooks understanding should be able to figure out that in state with many more Democrats than Republicans a conservative nominee for the senate can not win in a high turn out Presidential year. There is a chance in a non presidential low turn out year. But that is not this year.

Bush knew it, Santorum knew it.. everyone with a political brain knew it. Everyone knew it except someone as dumb as Toomey. He certainly did not know it. Toomey is so stupid that he thinks 35 percent of the voters can cast 51 percent of the votes. Toomey could not even get half the Republican votes against the RINOs, RINO. That is loserville with a capital L.

Yes Snookie baby... in a presidential year for a Republican to win in P.A. the candidate has to get a hunk of Democrat Votes. Does any one really think that a conservative who can't even get half the Republican primary votes, could get centrist and Democrat votes?

How ignorant of politics does one have to be to not know that there are at least 15 battleground states where neither Conservatives nor Liberals can win. If the Republicans were to only run Conservatives they would have about 35 Senate Seats and the Deomcrats and DINOs would have 65.

There is never a time that there are not 30 DINOs and RINOs in the Senate. If the Liberals have 25 or so DINO's in the Senate they can rule this nation. Yes a few of them like Zell Miller often go off the reservation. But there are always a RINO or two to make up for that.

That is why the LEFT NEVER TRASHES DINOs. Liberals are smart enough to know it takes DINOs to rule. They did it for most of the last century.

Both parties extremes always think their problem is the message is not getting out. The left is in that mode right now. If Kerry just can get his message out.. he will do fine. But the public does not like him and he will not win. It is not ignorance of the message, it is only a minority of voters buy the message.

People like you think that if the people just heard the conservative messsage they would vote for conservatives. The people have heard the conservative message. The problem in P.A., is they don't buy it. That leaves only one path to victory of the consrvative cause. It is a path that works. It is the path that requires the nomination and active support of RINOs in battleground states.

Conservatives just never figure it out. The world is not the way they want it. Nearly 65 percent of the voters do not agree with them. They may not like it... but that is the situation. The only way to get abortion ended forever is to nominate and support as many RINOs in the battle ground states as possible.

The best way to keep abortion forever legal is for Republicans to nominate as many conservatives in the battle ground states as possible.

Every candidate knows he can't do anything unless he wins. To win takes a majority of the votes. Candidates know that if they move far enough right in order to win the snookums votes, they lose all the center. The solution is simple. Move more to the left. Move farther to the left than you would if you had the snookems support.

Sookems need to understant that in politics as in baseball there are fans (voters) and Players(candidates). That is the real world. Here is a clue. Players(Candidates) want to play. Fans are team fans. Yankee fans don't root for the Indians. But an Indian player that gets traded to the Yankees well play his heart out for the Yankees.

NO FAN has ever gotten to Pitch in the world series. Only players get to do that.

Candidates are players. That is the real world. Get used to it. They are never just fans.

I don't know if it was the design, but it is certainly true. Failure to support the party nearest to a voters positions results in a voters worst nightmare. Teaching Geo Bush Sr. a lesson about raising taxes by suporting a Ross Perot, only got the nation Bill Clinton.

Your attempts to teach Dubya a lesson about Toomey would have only gotten you John Kerry and a DINO senator from PA. Toomey surely must have known that even in a very low turnout primary where only the true believers vote, that he could only cause problems and not win. But Perhaps Toomey is just stupid. Could be.

Toomey like many ambitious men, took his shot and destroyed his own career. That is also true in both sports and politics. Players that put their own ambitions ahead of the teams get sent to the minors.

Seems you agree with me. In the Specter race, election politics trumped Life. But you think that's good, in the long-term, that is. I think Bush had a great opportunity to change 'hearts and minds' if he wanted. That said, I hope you are right.

BTW in Pennsylvania, once fully pro-life Santorum got elected because he was able to pull votes with pro-life Democrats [Gov Casey types]. As a Pennsylvania voter if you think Specter will help Bush more than Toomey would, you are mistaken. Specter won't be able to help himself.
