Operation Homefront

Operation Homefront

In the wars won by the United States there has been a common bond. That bond is the willing sacrifice by civilians on the home front as well as the service and sacrifice by our soldiers and their families. It is time for the US to shrug off the stalemates of the Korean War and the Vietnam War (I refuse to call them conflicts.) caused by the American public and our politicians lack of resolve and backbone.

This is a call to action. We must win the War on Terror.

The mission of Operation Homefront is: 1. To support our troops through coordinated efforts to send cards, letters, care packages, rallies, letters to the editor and our firm resolve. 2. To support the mission of the War on Terror by winning the hearts and minds of Afghanistan and Iraq and others by supporting the efforts of our soldiers in humanitarian aid efforts through the many projects many accomplished by our caring and wonderful troops around the world in a coordinated effort. 3. To recognize that our government is a democratic republic, of the people, by the people and for the people. We support our troops, our values, way of life and form of government by being actively engaged in the political process. That means writing letters, emails and making telephone calls to our elected representatives and holding them accountable when our national defense is below the necessary manpower, funding or lacking in equipment appropriate to the mission of our troops and changing world. 4. To hold the un-elected media accountable for the lack of coverage of the good our troops do throughout the world by contacting the media through letters, emails and phone calls to express our displeasure or support for their coverage. To assume responsibility for informing the American public when the media fails, by conducting rallies, demonstrations, meetings and distributing leaflets that tell the truth about the enormous efforts of our troops.

Operation Homefront is a great idea! The War on Terror will be won or lost at home, that's for sure.

I copy that. For far too long we have been complacent and smug in their "superiority" and 9-11 knocked us back into reality - the reality that is shared by the "rest" of the world. Winning the War on Terror will take everything we can muster - infact, if you can imagine it, it will be needed. Only unity of purpose, purity of spirit and clarity of focus will help us fulfill the mission of making the world a safer place for everyone. Freedom is not cheap, it is very costly: The cost is always measured in human lives. We give ours so that others may live in freedom. That is the ultimate trade. THe question for all of us is: What is freedom worth to us personally? I hope the answer is "anything necessary."

I'm sending about 20 or so postcards a week to the troops and I correspond directly to a Marine and a CO of a helo repair shop in Balad. I can't make it to the meeting Wednesday, but I will keep on doing what I'm doing for the troops.

Thank you so much for what you do for the troops. If you have letters or postcards to share I would love to read them. Do you receive any responses from your cards and what do the Marine and CO have to say about what the situation is in Iraq?

I've had a few replies, most of the troops are too busy to write or feel ackward writing to somone they do not know.

A couple of the guys wrote back, they said it sucked over where they were but the greatly appreciated the support.

I wrote to one guy and it turns out he is also from WA, small world isn't it!

Most miss their families back home, especially the ones with children.

Most of all they appear to be very bored for long periods of time. The wait for the order seems to drag on for some, so they try to stay busy with books or DVD's if they have or get them. I sent a few packages to some guys that stated : "Electricty limited. Sleeping mostly on the ground." I figured that they get first dibs on anything I send.

Here are some good websites for addresses of troops looking for stuff:
