Thanks for the notice. Fortunately, all my mac os x boxes had the patch already downloaded and just wanted me to click OK. So much better than the 400+ Windows Servers I deal with at work everyday. We are going to spend close to $100k for SMS to deal with them this year. So much for TCO.

I'm now updated.
My PowerBook thanks you.

My PowerBook thanks you. Does it have a name? Tell it "You're welcome". ;-)

I'd buy a Mac, but I'm not gay. Obviously not all gays use Macs, otherwise wouldn't their penetration be bigger?

Then why not set your servers to do the same? Can't risk it. Patching servers can lead to downtime without proper testing with applications. Also it would be a burden to run to 400 servers and press "OK" even with Terminal Services. SMS automates this process and makes rollback easier.

1) Many windows patches require a reboot, in a complex environment that can affect other systems
2) Many windows patches break a systems if it is running sufficiently complicated third party software (in some cases even MS products like SQL server are affected by windows patches)..

I own three Macs...does that make me a homosexual?
If so, it'd come as a shock to my girlfriend.

Of course, you don't want your servers automatically downloading patches from Microsoft, but they can if you want them to.
You knew that. Right?

Thanks for the tip. Time to go update my Mac laptop. Should take about 90 seconds. Then I'll have plenty of time to reinstall Windows XP and all my applications in my Wintel desktops so they'll work again.
