Bump if you think it's time to stand up, be counted, write your congresspersons, and demand the right to marry more than one woman!
Why not? Maybe the current Mrs. Joe Republc would appreciate some help around the house.
Again, why not? After all....
- It doesn't HURT anyone.
- It only affects what happens in the bedroom.
- It's a PRIVATE matter.
- Only narrow-minded Christians have insisted on this in the past.
- We are broad-minded and advanced enough as a culture to handle this. Forget the lessons of the past. In fact, don't even look at tradition.
- If we ask the Mass. Supreme Court to look into it, I'm sure it's constitutional.
- If Adam and Steve can do it, why can't Joe R. and Brittany and Tiffany?
Again, it's my OWN business, and who does it HURT?
Let's have a National Call for Polygamy Day. How about June 21, the day after Father's Day? Let's all call Congress, ABC, NBC, CBS, the local paper, and DEMAND the right to marry more than one woman.
Oh, and let's not forget to call NOW, Ms. magazine, and maybe Barbara Walters.
In the meantime, I'll look for a bigger bed...
Facetiously yours,
-- Joe
All what you say is obvious. And yet you did't read it anywhere. Now take your conclusions !
And I try my best to meet every glance. :^)
Triplets?
Can we leave Eleanor out of this conversation?
What !??? Why, that's....UNNATURAL !! ;)
The book of Timothy says a bishop should marry only one woman. But it doesn't directly say this about all believers.
However, the Bible provides a lot of illustrations of how messed up situations involving polygamy became. But, no, I don't think the Bible directly prohibits polygamy.

P.S. I have more to say on this later. Glad the thread is being picked up. I seriously wonder if we REALLY SHOULD pick a day (June 21?) to flood the emails, faxes, and phonelines of Peter Jennings, Barb Streisand, and their ilk demanding polygamy.
They could conspire against you!
WAY to busy...
Speaking as a man with 5 daughters, all I can say is, you are absolutely correct !!
Shhhhhhhhh!!!
The question of the day, "Do you have a cave and did you build you own bathroom?"
The Bible DOES say something against a woman having more than one husband, as well as a husband having more than one wife....Hint - it's in Genesis and it has something to do with one flesh.
Careful here, they wouldn't see the sarcasm, thay would take it seriously, or as a challenge.
Also, the patriarchs having more than one wife (they were not sinless as far as I know) have no bearing on it. "The former times of your ignorance God winked at, but now he commandeth all men everywherer to repent"
That was a fun post of yours to read. You are right but wrong. Gloria Steinem declared long ago that "biology was not destiny". And she cut off her own lips by getting married recently. (ha!). Anyway, all women are competing for the alpha male; and every guy is trying for either the best fantasy dream-cum-true to occur (or simply to occur). That's the correct answer to your bar scenario. Of course, given that it's all boiled down to "just about sex". How would a woman know? lol.
I disagree, what if the guy has like 30 children and then cant support them? Then they will all suck off my paycheck for welfare... Doesnt work in this day and age anymore. 500 years ago, hey great, nowadays, nope wont work.
I have a travel trailer out back ;)
. . . .well, after the animal-rights people get their way in the courts. . .
Yes, it does.
Did the patriarchs practice bestiality?
Does the Mosaic Law condone the practice of bestiality?
If you see any moral equivalency between bestiality and polygamy, then you will have to argue with someone else.
I don't argue with people who deny the obvious.
oh sure... bring politics into this... (grinnnnnnnn)
