FBI BULLETIN: LOOKOUT FOR SUICIDE BOMBERS INSIDE THE U.S. Thu May 20 2004 19:09:51 ET

Warns Officials To Look for People Wearing Bulky Jackets on Warm Days; Smell of Chemicals; Trailing Wires from Jackets Bombers May Disguise Selves As Pregnant Women

New York - The FBI has disseminated to 18,000 law enforcement agencies an intelligence bulletin advising police officials to be on the lookout for suicide bombers attempting to strike inside the US, TIME's Elaine Shannon reports today on TIME.com. The lightly classsified bulletin, headlined "Possible suicide bomber indicators," and circulated earlier today (May 20) via the FBO's secure Law Enforcement Online (LEO) Intranet, warns local badge-carriers to look for obvious signs of trouble - people wearing heavy, bulky jackets on warm days, smelling of chemicals, trailing wires from their jackets - and, as well, more subtle ones, such as tightly clenched fists. Someone who never shows his palms could be gripping a detonator rigged to go off when a button is released. "If you shoot him, you're still not safe because his hands relax and the bomb explodes," says a counter-terrorism official, TIME reports.

The FBI bulletin also notes that suicide bombers may disguise themselves in stolen military, police or firefighter's garb or as pregnant women, TIME reports.

The mosque that the Santa Clara CA terrorists are supposed to frequent is right near my favorite shooting range.

The Left has been doing a pretty good incremental job of that since at least the 1920's.

Makes you wonder, doesn't it?

For instance: the then Senator Baldacci who is now the Governor of Maine, brought in over 1,200 Somali's to live in Lewiston. Last I heard, only 49 out of 1,200 had jobs. The rest are living off of the state.

"...the puffer machine, made by General Electric.
The machine — formally called EntryScan — already is used in power plants and military installations in the United States and Europe."

GE! Which also owns NBC, among other things. I am glad I've got a few shares of it...wish I had enough to fire Katie C.

I have - several times - the only thing STUPID are those who ignore the signs.

I agree with you. We never thought 9-11 would happen to America either. But it did. And what with all the "cells" across America............

Our Reps are even telling us on Fox today that it's going to get much worse between now and the end of June. Not sure if they meant here as well, but it could be anywhere. Just have to be on the alert and still try to go about our every day lives. Can't let this eat us up. I know "I'm" not going to crawl in a corner of my house. What will be will be.

For the life of me I can't understand why the Jihadists haven't pulled one of these stunts already.

OH I like this! Let's post the names of all the cities run by flaming liberals! This way the terrorists will exploit these cities...simply a two for one deal!

It's a windfall!

After 9-11, homicide bombing is going to look pretty penny ante.

Do you really think so? I grew up in Boston and visited relatives in NYC many times. I was at the top of WTC2 at least 20 times. I even got to go out on the roof a few times.

September 11 was personal to me. But not so much to many folks in flyover country. Of course they were horrified. But they couldn't relate. I could.

Now imagine if 20 suicide bombers hit 20 malls on a rainy fall Saturday afternoon. In locations like Dublin, OH, Bangor, ME, Panama City FL, Des Moines IA, Schaumburg,IL, Monroeville PA, Natick MA, Nashua NH, Dothan AL, Manchester CT, Buffalo NY, Waco TX, Burlington MA, Etc.

3000 dead? If we got off so lightly it would be a miracle.

Would there be any chance that the terrorists might be say, just off the top of my head, MIDDLE EASTERN MEN BETWEEN THE AGES OF 18 AND 45?

Coming to Boston for the J F'n Kerry coronation...or would that be attacking an ally?

Or would they do it to help garner sympathy for J F'n K?

Either way...I bet Boston is a target....they are planning to LIMIT access, creating choke points and HUGE snarls...a terrorists version of a "Target-rich-Environment"!

Fascist bigot.

If we don't consider elderly nuns as equally suspect, that would be "profiling." Better to die than to "profile."

I just Visited Manzara--Lots of room for thousands. All we need are some tar paper shacks and some tents and they are in business. Lots of closed military bases could be used as well. If its a war--this is something we may well be forced to do. Still, PC would rule untill we took loses of at least 40,000 citizens.

... but I think along around the second bomber-in-a-mall scenario and there would be some pretty unforgettable unintended consequences.

Back on planet Earth, the second airplane flown into a skyscraper would have been enough.

Good point.

I've always wondered why it wasn't tried around Christmas at shopping malls, etc.

It would have crippled much of the economy.
