Radio report said officals have isolated and are combing a Phoenix to Reagan Nat'l flight on the ground at Sky Harbor. Apparently, someone found (I'm not kidding) a soda can with a wire sticking out of it.
Is that a wire sticking out or are you just happy to see me...

So, where is Sky Harbor?
This sort of thing is done probably so that Americans will get the "boy who called wolf" syndrome, silly items that are laying around, and turn out to be harmless, will make it easier for sleeper cells to place the real thing and have it ignored.
Dont forget SLEEPER CELLS folks. in Arizona Al Qaeda and Hamas, in DC Hamas and Hezbollah - keep an eye on your "dont we just fit in so well?" neighbors. We must not fall asleep at the wheel.

This is something that was done unintentionally prior to 9-11 and not something I would recommend anyone trying just to see what would happen.
I had a pop and my cell phone in my carry on bag. The two were right next to each other in a side pocket.
Suffice to say the guy running the x-ray machine looked at my bag at least half a dozen times with an increasingly alarmed expression until I happened to think of what he might be looking at and told him.
His comment back to me was along the lines of "thanks, you never know what to think when you see what could be a solid substance next to electronics".
They then had me pull the can and the cell phone out to verify both. They didn't ask me too but I offered to and did open the pop can and take a drink. They did ask me to turn the cell phone on.
