I need some advice, guidance, opinion, etc here.
I'm planning a "Defense of Marriage" rally on the lawn of the RI State House for June 26th, noon-4. I've finally hit my breaking point with the judicial tyranny, media acceptance, and liberal activism of my neighbor to the north, Massachusetts, and have decided to do something about it. A rally is the best thing I could think of. I feel that if we can gather and make a loud enough voice, it'll hopefully let our local RI politicians and judges know that we're not going to tolerate this tyrannical nonsense any longer.
I've already scheduled the date with the local Central Services office, and submitted my letter of intent.
Now, all I need are people. I'm reaching out to all local churches, the media, faith-based community action groups, and of course all of the wonderful FReepers.
My questions are - is it customary to have guest speakers? Or, is it acceptable to just have signs/slogans? Reason being, I don't have any PA equipment, and would have to find a way to secure some. Finding some guest speakers wouldn't be that difficult, but honestly, I don't know what the best course of action is.
This is the very fist rally I've ever organized, and I'll admit I'm a bit lost on how to get things rolling. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Wish I could be with you, good luck bump!

How about the message that homosexual or same sex marriage is condemned in EVERY SINGLE RELIGION IN THE WORLD! They like to pretend that it's "only" Christians who are opposed, or rather, make that only ignorant, backwards, primitive Christians.
But EVERY religion is opposed. Also Mother Nature herself is opposed, and so is Mr. Common sense.
One suggestion about signs: do NOT use the word "gay". That is caving in to their usurpation of a good English word.
Maybe some signs could make mention of the ruination of marriage in Scandinavia and the Netherlands.
"Don't break marriage like in Holland and Sweden".
"Babies need a Father and a Mother"
Could you please send me a copy of the flyer?
Also, what is the parking situation?
"Right-click, save target" as here:

If you have Win XP, you can open the file using the Windows Image and Fax Viewer, and print it from there.
In regard to parking - the surface lots around the state house will be opened that day, and there's always loads of street parking there on Saturdays.
IOTN, I have Win XP, but it's not working. All I get is, "no preview available".
lj, do you think some of the myths from Rainbow of Myths (you had posted - Link to color brochure: http://states.cwfa.org/images/content/At%20the%20End%20of%20the%20RAinbow%20brochure%20final.pdf ) would be appropriate for signs? This is my first rally and I don't want to mess it up. :)
I'll have the Rainbow Myths pamphlets available to hand out that day, I'm going to mass-produce them.
If you want, I can e-mail you the flyer file itself...you may have better luck with it that way.
Let me know.
Excellent.
Yes, please e-mail me the flyer file, as I would like to spread it around, including church. Thank you so much!
Here is a copy of the itinerary, as well as our "mission statement". Nutmeg, can you please ping your RI, MA, and CT lists? LJ - want to ping the HA list? We're in the home-stretch!
Our Statement of Purpose:
The Defense of Marriage Rally is a media event designed to provide a voice in the state of Rhode Island for the defense of marriage as defined by the union between a man and a women; to encourage our legislators to be proactive in protecting and preserving marriage; to rally those in our state who hold the institution of marriage as sacred to do whatever is in their power to preserve and protect marriage; to provide a reasoned and impassioned response to the convoluted thinking behind the growing trend towards redefining marriage; to call spiritual leaders to embrace courage and unity on this issue, and to provide a platform for solidarity with those who would otherwise feel alone in this struggle.
And here is the itinerary. Sorry, I don't know how to post this properly:

Also, here is some information on the band performing:

May God bless our efforts!
