Activism/Rally Vanity (need some advice please!)
self | 05/19/2004 | self

Posted on 05/19/2004 7:34:30 AM PDT by ItsOurTimeNow

I need some advice, guidance, opinion, etc here.

I'm planning a "Defense of Marriage" rally on the lawn of the RI State House for June 26th, noon-4. I've finally hit my breaking point with the judicial tyranny, media acceptance, and liberal activism of my neighbor to the north, Massachusetts, and have decided to do something about it. A rally is the best thing I could think of. I feel that if we can gather and make a loud enough voice, it'll hopefully let our local RI politicians and judges know that we're not going to tolerate this tyrannical nonsense any longer.

I've already scheduled the date with the local Central Services office, and submitted my letter of intent.

Now, all I need are people. I'm reaching out to all local churches, the media, faith-based community action groups, and of course all of the wonderful FReepers.

My questions are - is it customary to have guest speakers? Or, is it acceptable to just have signs/slogans? Reason being, I don't have any PA equipment, and would have to find a way to secure some. Finding some guest speakers wouldn't be that difficult, but honestly, I don't know what the best course of action is.

This is the very fist rally I've ever organized, and I'll admit I'm a bit lost on how to get things rolling. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I heard about the broadcast this morning, I'll definitely check it out. I'm sure it'll give me some excellent talking points to use at the rally.

Thank you for the link

Have you noticed that the list of FReepers on the RI page (and all the state/country pages) is gone, replaced now by a huge message board? Geez, what gives with that, I wonder? I was going to ping a few RI FReepers who are not on my list (a one-time ping) to this thread... now I can't.

Oh well... here's another BUMP for this thread!

Awesome!

Please spread the word to any and everyone you can think of. Churches, civic groups, etc. I'm going to contact WARV 1590 and see what they can do to help spread the word.

I'm nervous as heck over this...please pray for me!

Prayers definitely coming your way! :-)

Thank you for doing this... this is a very noble cause. I don't want this garbage spreading to RI and CT (and beyond) either. I hope we can join you on June 26 (not sure at the moment).

There was a big pro-traditional marriage rally on the CT State Capitol this past weekend, led by someone from out of state - a minister from the south or midwest, I think. Do you know any of the details? This minister may be helping people around the country arrange these rallies. (?) I have to get off the computer soon... will look into story later.

JR, do you have a permit? If those idiots H.S.'ers in SK can get one to starve on the State House Lawn on Thanksgiving, you really need to metion that. The state machine (i.e. democratic labor forces) may cause trouble.
Please, by all means, enlist the aid of our duly elected officials, I just bet Patches would love this!

As for Jack Reed, how gay does this guy need to be?
West Point, my a@@...we are being hosed by the homosexual agenda in this SMALL BUT VIRULENT STATE.

Let's look at Linc...nope. No help there for normal men and families.
Jim Langivine? Don't think so...

Your best hope is Caceiri and....people like Bazaloonie!
I'll see ya at the rally!!!!
