Now we know why Steve Forbes wants the flat tax. Wealthy individuals such as Teresa Heinz Kerry pay less in taxes, proportionately, than does the median U.S. family......

So Steve Forbes is a rich guy enjoying low rates, and it is wrong for him to want the rest of us to lower our tax rates? That works for me. I paid 18% to the Feds and 28% of my total income including FICA, income taxes and property taxes (excluding excise and sales taxes) last year. I would personally be happy to pay less and require a concurrent cut in government spending. It wouldn't be that hard to do the cutting.
I am not surprised...and the french-looking gold-digger kerry wants to raise taxes on the rest of us.
bump
I know, I know, there's that little qualifier "proportionately", but the clear intent of the headline is to mislead and inflame people into thinking she paid less in taxes than Joe Average who makes $40,000 a year.
Compared to most people, she paid less as a percentage of her income, but half of her income was from tax free bonds. Anyone who's smart would have some of the same tax free income in their investment portfolio.
This is just political demogogeury that Dems usually stoop to. I'd like to think we're above that, no?
She pays less than I do? Good, I wouldn't expect one of our betters to pay anything at all. Madame Kerreeee is not one of the little people.
Well you know they'll blame Bush and his tax cuts on this.
THK is a prime example of the taxpayer that Forbes and others allways refer to when they rail about the upper 1% of the taxpaying population paying more in 'income'taxes than the rest of the country (guess what tax bracket Steve Forbes is in). The discussion usually focuses on Income Taxes only and avoids any discussion of Payroll Taxes - which neither Mr Forbes of Ms Heinz-Kerry really have to worry about since most of their incomes come from sources that are exempt from those taxes.
Steve Forbes and THK were some of the big winners in the recent rounds of tax cuts - that's because that's the way they were designed.
Don't worry - we'll all get 'trickled-down on' by the poor folks like Steve & Teresa.
"I don't like class warfare, taxes, or the Kerrys, but misleading headlines like this infuriate me."
Not for one second did I wonder what the headline meant. It wasn't misleading at all. Of COURSE it meant "proportionately".
How come she got past the Alternate Minimum Tax, which would have taxed her at 28% of 'gross income'?
Whether or not you or I were actually misled - neither of us were - is irrelevant to the intent of the headline. It was clearly intended to mislead.
I don't like dishonest and/or disingenuous reporting from our side. We lose credibility if we engage in that or endorse it. I will not.
MISLEADING....and a CLASS Warfare kinda title....if she hadn't paid ANY, I MIGHT complain, but, she's paid her fair share it looks like to me.....only the DEMOCRATS should be complaining about THIS!!! Should we all be this RICH~!!!!!
Maybe because of the TYPE of INCOME it was? (lots in bonds.)
Why "of course?" There was no indication as to what the headline meant without reading the article.
