AN Indonesian district head on Tuesday released 100 snakes to help farmers fight rats which have wreaked havoc with the local rice harvest, a report said.
Aided by two snake experts, Sleman District Chief Ibnu Subiyanto freed the snakes, averaging two metres long at 15 separate locations in rice fields in Cangkringan, near the central Java city of Yogyakarta, the state Antara news agency said.
The released snakes included pythons, the report said.
"These snakes that we have released are to protect the crop. Therefore, if farmers see these snakes, do not catch or kill them," Subiyanto told farmers watching the event from a safe distance.
Cangkringan subdistrict head Hadi Mulyono said farmers had tried other ways to get rid of the rats, including smoking them out of their holes, without much success.
Although I AM a Texan, I reckon I don't know what a King Snake is...or have just forgotten. Clue moi in!!
That's funny ....the Brits bet on everything and anything. Personally I'd go with the snakes ....I am certain the rats there are some mean blokes, but when a python (even a small one) decides to put a 'squeeze' on a rodent, the rodent always loses.
A King Snake has a diamond pattern similar to a rattler's. It gets pretty big, adores to eat rodents and other snakes (loves other snakes!), is fearless, is non-poisonous, a little shy, eats with relish poisonous snakes, not aggressive toward people at all.
Does this help?
"Does this help?"
Yep! Thanks!
