Just now, looking for copy...
I know but it's fun leading them......
"The former regime had declared all such rounds destroyed before the 1991 Gulf War," Kimmitt said...."
And thus the existence of that round itself, if tracked back to Saddam's Iraq, is yet another violation of the UN resolutions.
talk about the need for a tin foil hat!
piecing some statements together here . . .
the IED exploded before it could be rendered inoperable . . .
"The round was an old binary-type requiring the mixing of two chemical components in separate sections of the cell before the deadly agent is produced," Kimmitt said. "The cell is designed to work after being fired from an artillery piece."
From the first statement, I would conclude that the soldiers were attemting to disarm the IED and that it exploded.
In conjunction with the second statement, it seems unlikely that the sarin would have been created by the detonation itself [chemical agents are very hard to dispurse under ideal conditions - explosions generally destroy them instead of creating them!!].
Maybe there are a few experts here (I was in the Artillery in the early 80's, but this was not my expertise!!) who will correct me, but, the sarin needed to have been "mixed" prior to the detonation which indicates both a foreknowledge that the round contained sarin AND the knowledge of how to mix it properly . . .

Cough
Good gravy. It's so obvious Rummy planted the sarin when he sulked into IRAQ to make fun of the troops the other day. Can't ANY of you right wing morons see the truth? It's soooooooo obvious.
Bush made this up in Crawford. All part of the plan.
Any takers?
It won't even make the NBCCBSABC Nightly News tonight.
Has there been any news follow-up on that story? Lab test results? Confirmation of quantity?
and anyway, the UN inspectors might have found this eventually if we gave them a few more years to look...spo let's talk about abu graib
It doesn't matter, nothing will ever be good enough for the leftists:
Even if we found a big cache of nukes in Iraq, it wouldn't take away the fact that Bush claimed knowledge about when, in fact, he didn't know.
Newsies are trying to pass this off as an isolated incident--that the 'insurrectionists' didn't know they had a chemical weapon [bridge for sale in Brooklyn and oceanfront property for sale in AZ alert].
We will know if more Sarin-laced IED are found soon. Until then, shoebomber Reid acted alone and Muhammad and Malvo were 2 white guys in a white van.
Bump!
The only thing I've seen as a follow up was a CNN broadcast. I think it was David Eisner and he said the VX Nerve Gas was the most troubling of the 71 or 72 chemicals that were found. He saw the stuff and showed pictures.
Could have easily killed over 80,000, he said and injured hundreds of thousands. Blindness and lung disease would have resulted for those who lived but were in the blast area.
pool: which alphabet soup news agency will be the first to use WMD to describe this find? If the story has legs, they will have to eventually. They are dutifully NOT using WMD because they know it's use will instantly add 10 points to W's approval numbers.
No doubt the "newsies" will totally discount their own confidence that this is an "isolated incident" and counsel their travels in and around Iraq on the side of safety.
I'm sure today's group of anti-war protesters will be in full feather. I almost can't wait to walk through them!
Possible CNN/MSNBC spin:
"Coming up next, Donald Rumsfeld visits Iraq and SUDDENLY we find WMDs. Could this be a new Bush campaign strategy?"
I don't think any of the alphabet news agencies (Old Media) used the term WMD when describing the thwarted Jordan attack either.
71 or 72 chemicals and vials including VX Nerve gas were found, could have killed 80,000 and injured hundreds of thousands and they DIDN'T use the word WMD. Amazing.
