OUTNUMBERED British soldiers killed 35 Iraqi attackers in the Army’s first bayonet charge since the Falklands War 22 years ago. The fearless Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders stormed rebel positions after being ambushed and pinned down.
Despite being outnumbered five to one, they suffered only three minor wounds in the hand-to-hand fighting near the city of Amara.
The battle erupted after Land Rovers carrying 20 Argylls came under attack on a highway.
After radioing for back-up, they fixed bayonets and charged at 100 rebels using tactics learned in drills.
When the fighting ended bodies lay all over the highway — and more were floating in a nearby river. Nine rebels were captured.
An Army spokesman said: “This was an intense engagement.”
The last bayonet charge was by the Scots Guards and the Paras against Argentinian positions.

Our soldiers are doing a great job, the best they can do, but if they had less restraints on them they would be much more effective. Their hands are tied in many instances. Most of these restraints come from the fact that our gov. does nor control our press.

The blade is offset against the handle on the SA80 bayonet, the handle is hollow and clips directly over the muzzle so you fire through the handle when bayonets are fixed.

hehe, nothing better than a good fight do the Scots like. I remember a story I read, I think it took place during the battle of Balaklava. The 93rd Highlanders were in Square formation against a unit of Russian Cavalry. The Scots blood was up so much that they broke ranks during the fight and CHASED a Cav unit from the field of battle.
Don't know that I could go home and confess to my loved ones how a man in a "skirt" kicked my fanny lol. I know it's a Kilt, I'm Scottish ancestry myself, so don't get your shorts in a bind :)

The british used supressing gun fire while they charged to keep the arabs heads down.When the British got into their positions things got REAL Ugly fast for the arabs. The Brits were PISSED and were shooting and bayoneting everyone in front of them. It had to be something to see.

Dad's unit wound up being loaned to Monty to clear mines so the 79th could do graves reg. Dad was an EOD specialist.
I'm glad he was a careful one. He did have one unfortunate encounter with a "Bouncing Betty" but the second charge was a dud. While he and mom were on their 50th Anniversary Victory Tour, they went back to that beach (at Marino di Pisa on the west coast) and said a little prayer . . .

The story said that these Brits were in some cars or trucks or something before making their charge. Folks, I think we have seen our first drive-by bayoneting.
