Marine from Maine accidentally shot
Saturday,May15,2004,10:25 AM
AUGUSTA (AP) -- A 22-year-old Marine from Maine who spent two months as a scout sniper in Iraq is listed in serious condition after he was accidentally shot by a law enforcement officer during a training exercise in Florida.
Corporal Eric Verhille was shot in the chest last week while working as an instructor during a training session for a dozen officers from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.
According to initial reports, four officers with long guns and handguns cleared one room and entered a second in which a shot was fired and Verhille was hit.
The Marine's father, Gary Verhille, a high school teacher in Gardiner, said his son was in a situation where live ammunition was being fired, and one trainer took him for a target.

I don't know about Florida but here in Texas a game warden is just as much a peace officer as is a DPS Trooper or a sheriff deputy or even a city cop. They learn LE first and then train in their specific field.
In Texas we should make "Everyone" a Law Enforcement Officer then only people from out of state will be un-armed, cool idea.

Been quite a few fin and feather types killed in the line of duty. Not in the state of Florida lately. This is unacceptable. We need our snipers for active duty, not for training a bunch of ranger Barney Fifes.

" the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission was receiving SWAT dynamic entry training because?!?!?!"You might have a fish in the fridge that's short. "they were using live ammo in a training session because?!?!?! "
Osmeone told them that they could learn from mistakes.

That is the BEST idea I have ever heard on this board!!
It rates as QUOTE of the DAY - no month - no Quote of the YEAR!
That would also help with these "conservatives" on here who believe that the govt is here to help and that people should NOT be responsible nor get involved with the law (believe it or not!)

Does anyone have a list or website of all the accidental shootings by Law Enforcement types lately?

I dunno, times have changed, I liked it better when the Fish and Game guys were middle aged good old boys that liked to hunt and fish themselves, insteasd of the current crop of gung-ho, PC, over-aggressive twerps.
Apologies to any LEOs that take offense, but if these young, degreed folks wanted to be SWAT, DEA, whatnot, why didn't they apply to those agencies?

You actually got me to swerve right into that one, it is how we take our Government back, Make everyone Law Enforcement AND Elected Officials, AND Judges, now we are all equal again. Then we can spend the next 250 years watching as some Animals become more equal than others all over again.
(I was just being a smartass, but now I see your wisdom) and as far as getting involved with the Law, I avoid the Law like flea infested rats in the middle of a plague (pick one), I'm but a subject to these folks and therfore subjected to all of the Laws and Taxes that they are exempt of, for these reasons I try to make myself as small a target as possible.
?Has it been nearly 40 years since I read the Butterfly Revolution? I think I shall remedy that this week.

There were quite a few yesterday on a differnt thread that argued that it was NOT the American citizens responsibility to turn in criminal illegal aliens.
Since the federal govt is paid to do that, we should let the feds do all the work of finding and arresting criminal illegal aliens, terrorist and the sort.

The way the system works now, American Citizens have fewer rights than Illegal aliens, LE know what they can and cannot do to keep from getting sued or whatever (besides illegals don't have any money), which is why they turn to SAFE targets of opportunity, their new mission is to eliminate the very dangerous no seatbelt wearing, fine paying, tax payer.
I am sorry, until the citizens regain equal status with the Tax Collectors, they are the Enemy, they get nothing from me except my disgust and pity. It has gotten to the point that I just hate to drive anywhere anymore, and yes I have had this very conversation with LE, two neighbors are local LE, we don't speak anymore.
About 7 years ago we moved here and we had a bit of a Gang problem, they would break into my garage and shop every week, they painted their gang signs on the walls and fences, one day they stole a brand new lawnmower in broad daylight (the replacement for the one they had stolen earlier) I caught them, the police were summoned, they came with guns drawn (no lie) but they were pointing them at me. They were going to take ME in, all the while the little thugs are laughing and running away. A heated discussion followed (I supplied most of the heat) in the end they didn't take me in (my wife convinced them that I really wasn't going to bury the little thugs in my back yard), now the punchline...
I did not have the receipt (it was in the plastic bag, along with the warranty, still hanging on the mower, which the little bastards had in their possession) they sold it to a Motel a couple of blocks away from me, (I watched them using my mower for 3 years) and I was further instructed that if I followed through with any of my intentions (I had suggested that I might just buy another lawnmower, set it in plain sight but conveniently forget that I had a live 220V electric cord attached to it, or electrifying my fence) that I would be the one going to Jail. The topper (this is great) I had 2 weeks to paint over the gang graffiti or pay a fine (city ordnance and all) and to continue to paint over it until they stop tagging me, this the officer explained is the best way to stop all of this vandalism.
I have 7 years of these stories, now we have a new Mayor, a new Police Chief (who immediately proceeded to hire all of his relatives) and nothing has changed except our Taxes need to go up (again) for the purchase of more new Police cars. I guess they will have to work twice as hard catching all those dangerous no seat belt wearing, fine paying, taxpayers.
Other than that I am a big supporter of Law Enforcement.
P.S. I do not dial 9-1-1.

"...after Ketchup-boy and the Democrats seize control of all the ballots in Florida."Might be right. Too bad they don't have a solid Republican running that state.
