Faith leaders citywide ask people to turn in their guns

The Rev. Walter Johnson, pastor of Wayman A.M.E. Church in Cabrini-Green, had five guns stashed Saturday and was looking to get ahold of a few more.
This wasn't a man of the cloth on the lam. This was the Citywide Gun Turn-In.
The church in the middle of the infamous Near North Side public housing complex was among 11 houses of worship citywide where folks were encouraged to drop off guns -- no questions asked.
"The blessing is that these individuals felt the need to want to turn in their guns, with no incentives," Johnson said. "We said show your love, turn in your guns. We just simply put out there, 'It's the right thing to do.' "
Saturday's Turn-In was the second held this year by Clergy for Safer Streets. Co-chaired by Johnson and the Rev. Michael Pfleger of St. Sabina Catholic Church, the group has brought the faith community together on the gun issue.
"We've only gotten one gun so far, but we've gotten 60 over the last six months," Pfleger said at his South Side church. "We need to continue fighting for stricter gun laws and hold gun manufacturers responsible. At the same time, the faith community has to continually challenge our communities to get rid of the ones we already have out here."
By late afternoon, 13 guns had been turned in to diverse houses of worship ranging from mosques to synagogues. The last noon-to-6p.m. Turn-In on Feb. 14 reaped 15 guns.
"The key is to encourage people not to be afraid," said Yvonne Orr-Richardson, coordinator of the Chicago Police Department's community policing unit. "We're not asking questions. We don't need to know where it came from, who you got it from. We just want the metal piece.
"We did get some guns that have been turned in that have been loaded. Who knows what those bullets could have been used for?"
Johnson said three of the guns he collected were turned in loaded -- two from a middle-aged couple and one from a middle-aged woman. All said they just didn't want them in their houses anymore. The guns were turned over to police.
BALTODOG WANTS ALL GUNS IN WICHITA TURNED IN TO HIM.
...also, any music equipment...
...and videos you may regret having made...
FMCDH Bump!
Democrats with guns is a frightening thought. As long as they want to turn theirs in, God bless 'em. I'll hang on to ours, though.
Daley's commune propaganda BuMp.
And when one of these guns is found to be a murder weapon...........what then?
Excellent question.
Those people are obviously better off not having guns (and we are better off for it, too--people who do't know #### about gun safety should not have them; if they've reached middle age while owning them without bothering to learn, they're lost causes).
"Effin" hypocrites.... oh I'm sorry, they're Democrats... same thing.
I know what you mean but to rephrase it, What's more frightening to Democrats/Communists is NonDemocrats with guns. When the Democrats/Communists take over the government by ignoring the laws that were passed in the past then they have something to worry about. I'll say it's happening already: case in point is the gays and lesbians marrying each other and being sanctioned by the liberal judges even though the laws state otherwise.
Here in Tennessee, we pass the plate and take a gun OUT as needed;^)
I'm sure the Chicago Police Dept community policing unit will be careful to not investigate that possiblity.
You're probably right, it's ok to want the names of gun buyers kept in a list but an intrusion on privacy for a murderer to turn in a murder weapon, invasion of the confessional etc.
I was confuse for a moment.
This doesn't bother me too much - anyone who would voluntarily turn in a gun is probably:
-a criminal dipsosing of evidence - good! we obviously didn't catch him anyway and now he's less armed.
-getting rid of defective equipment - again, good!
-stupid, which is fine with me. stupid people without guns are less dangerious.
Or all three!
The clergy siding with criminals now. Hmmmm....
I agree. The reason liberals are so afraid of guns is because they know that they, themselves, don't have the mental stability to be responsible with guns. I applaud their self awareness about this. Given that, it is ashame that they can't perceive that everyone is not irresponsible like they are.
OK, I've turned my guns "in".. they are either facing the interior of the
house or the interior of the truck. How does this help? Can I have an incentive?
I am not hard to find and I will treat said guns the way that they should be treated.
In Texas you get to take two!!!
