"Exactly. If anything it makes Secretary Powell come off as looking good."

Right - he had a chance to explain events and his UN statements!

Looks like Tim may be the only guy in the media doing a good job.

ROTFLMCO, what color is the sky in YOUR world? Tim was asking recycled questions that have been asked and answered a dozen times. No, Tim is a hack that has finally gone over the hill.

Exactly. We don't want to give the impression of running away from the press because we're scared of their questions.

Sure, but having "Emily" in charge of things, or giving her the idea that she is in charge of things, was obviously a big blunder on the part of someone in the Bush administration. Aside from the truth of the matter (which we'll no doubt learn about over the next week or two or three), the perception it creates is quite damaging, ie it makes the opposition look intelligent. Having this "Emily" person dominate the headlines makes it that much harder for Bush to get his message out. Maybe someone with Emily's point of view would have made a better SoS than Mr. Powell (if Powell's such a worthless fuddy-duddy, ask for his resignation and have done with it), but she's made a difficult but rather irrelevant interview into a major news story that makes the Bush administration (and Powell) look bad. Obviously, she should walk, but the people who are fostering this sort of "working environment" need some quiet time, too. Otherwise, they're going to get their boss fired.

MR. RUSSERT: I think that was one of your staff Mr. Secretary. I don't think that's appropriate.

What a pompous ass.

"if we keep kissing the big fat a$$e$ of people like Russert,we're screwed."

Absolutely.

The media see themselves as all mighty, and all powerful; they believe themselves to be the "higher authority" that everyone must eventually answer to...even the highest leaders of the world.

They pick favorites (i.e. King william of Monica) and like bad parents, overlook his missteps, while reaming out those who do not fit the party line.

But, no one can get too high for the court of Grass Roots...and that includes the press; the media needs fuel to run, and that fuel is MONEY. The fuel comes from advertisers who are only able to give money if PEOPLE BUY THEIR PRODUCTS.

Now, I'm not advocating and all-out boycott of advertisers; moreover, I believe more effect will be realized if, when we see those sponsoring such left-wing newscasts, we just make a mental note to skip their product the next time we're in the store.

For instance, in protest to prince John Ef'fin of Ketchup, I have decided to never buy Heinz ketchup (or other Heinz products)again. Now, this won't have much effect on the Heinz corporation with just ME doing it...but if just 5% of the shopping public decides to do this, the effect on Heinz will get their attention, for sure.

I mean, if the bread companies and Krispy Kreme are being hurt severly by the Atkins Diet, then surely the sovereignty of our country is worth switching brands for a while. I bought some "store brand" ketchup, and you know what...it's pretty darn good.

Anyway, back to the subject - IF the media ticks you off, then the ONLY way you can fight back is to cause them a "fuel leak"...hit their wallet. Oh yeah, you might want to drop them a line and tell them you're doing it, and WHY you're doing it...maybe that would cause an "ego leak"...which would also be a good thing.

Anyone know what the "provocative" questions were?

"obviously a big blunder on the part of someone in the Bush administration"

I knew it...it had to be Bush's fault. Last I heard, Powell hired his own staff like most other cabinet members.

Bottom line, alot of us are ticked at the way the press is going after Republicans to fan the anti-war passions of the soccer moms. "Emily" is no different. saddly she will be looking for work soon.

I heard Powell say:

"Get out of here, Emily" and he was "angry" when he said it and you don't hear "anger" in Powell's voice very much. It's one of the resons he has the job he has.

Now, who is Emily? and who made her arrogant enough to make this incident happen?

I wouldn't call Mario Cuomo an old school Democrat. Russert worked for the former NYS Governor and remains a Librat to the core.
