In Need of Pro-Conservative Political Cartoons (Vanity)
vanity | 5-15-04 | admiralsn

Posted on 05/15/2004 5:11:06 PM PDT by admiralsn

This is my first vanity post, so I apologize if I have done it wrong. Basically, I am in need of a web site that has pro-Conservative political cartoons. I teach school and am at war with a liberal who has begun an "Election 2004" bulletin board plastered with anti-Conservative cartoons and news articles. I am fighting back. I have found many good ones at www.liberalscum.com. Are there any other collections out there.

Thanks for you help.

Document what is happening, and speak up. What happens depends on the administration. My daughter certainly lets the teachers know when they cross the line. My grandson was given the anti-war side of a debate. My daughter said NO WAY. His uncle is (was) in Iraq. The debate still took place, but he got to support the war.

You're right -- his drawings are great.

This one deserved special mention, I think.

FReepmail Pookie18. Pookie scours the web and finds excellent toons every day. Look at Pookie's previous posts, and you'll find several dozen you can put up on the bulletin board tomorrow.

1. Are teachers allowed to outwardly influence students on political matters?

I suppose it really depends on the school or district, however there probably aren't any written rules on that specific subject. Having said that, however, it is MY opinion that a teacher does not have the right to express a certain view over another, or try to influence a student in any way. I try very carefully to remain neutral in the ideas and information that I present to my students. If they ask my opinion, that's one thing, but to force it upon them is just not right, imo. That is part of the reason for this post. Another teacher created this board, claiming that it is balanced, but clearly is not. So I am trying to present the other side.

2. What are the rules if there are any.

I would have your daughter talk to the teacher 1st, and then the Principal, or Assistant, or Counselor. Having gone through the proper chain, if that still doesn't help, then YOU need to definitely get involved. Try to have documentation, if possible. Be aware, of course, that many many educators are liberal, unfortunately. Good luck.

Thank you all so much for the help. So many sites- I don't know where to begin. I knew Freepers would come through for me.

I teach at a private school, and while I don't preach, the kids know where I stand from my bulletin board, which I call "The first amemdment bulletin board".

I know the school was concerned when they hired me because of my strongly held views. I always have other views on the board, but it's pretty clear, esp. with all the "Registered" parodies up there, where I stand. The kids know, and I don't hide it...but neither do I preach it...and they know I DON'T GRADE BASED ON OPINION but on ablity to cite facts and defend their stance. I am fair in my grading and I present both sides in our political discussions....I do a lot of "some people feel X"..."others believe Y"...and so on...

If the teacher slants the presentation, or only presents ONE SIDE, then you have a case. When they want to know what I think, I invite those who are interested to come by after class, and I will be happy to discuss. But I tell them class is not the time to get into my personal views.

I know several teachers who are activists on the other side, but I think we all respect each other enough to see it as part of the way our republic works!

type the word- toons- in the main search engine here at FR (you can choose to search the most current ones)that way, your "board" will change from time to time, and generate more visual interest, like; "what's he got up there this week?" and yes, freepers are the absolute best....i check out appy pappy, and lazmataz's posts for hilarious one-liners, alouette is funny too.
