I just returned from a debate between Ann Coulter and Al Franken held at the Bushnell Auditorium in Hartford, Connecticut.
Hey, hey, hey! Let's not forget Kellyanne Conway and Monica Crowly!
That was the NYT Weekend Style Editor. My recall was that she did step in a points when Franken and Alterman really got bad. It was enough that I had planned to send her an email about it. If we complain when they do something wrong, you gotta pat them on the ass and say "Attaboy" when they do right.
Don't know, but my hat's off to conservatives who routinely speak in the liberal lion's den. Horowitz is my hero; a reformed Marxist who spends his time talking on college campuses, and inevitably faces the worst kind of hate-motivated insults and attacks.
Ann's not only smart. She's tougher than I am. You go, girl.
As a former Marine, it was wonderful to have anyone visit us, it happened so infrequently, in fact, only twice that I remember in 4 years.
Good point about "bragging rights". You were able to verbalize what I had be uneasy about it. He's "made friends" with Toby Keith too. You wonder if it's not to spite Hannity. Liberals love to look down on country music with remarks like "one tooth, red neck, trailer park, dopuble wide" etc.
His comedy routine on the USO tour wasn't "apolitocal". In some ways, he was "preaching the liberal gospel" to the troops engaged in combat. And what he preached couldn't in anyway be viewed as good for morale. You can't find anything in a Bob Hope tour that could be pro or con the Vietnam war. Just that we love you and wish you the best. It had some zingers, but nothing that expressed any personal opinion on the conflict. Franken DIDN'T do that with his Saddam rountine.
Thanks Doctor. Looks like you have been having a good time with this thread.
Franken reminds me of the tragic Lonesome Rhodes charater Andy Griffith played in "A Face in the Crowd." He is trying to be something he is not and now he's not even close to being funny.
Race, I know what it feels like to be sitting amongst the enemy and I can understand how you got the impression you did get, but I sure feel better after reading chudogg's analysis. It's still hard for me to understand why Ann would put herself in the same building with Franken? He's a lightweight 'hasbeen.'
No accounting for individual actions at different times. Perhaps she didn't see the need to do so. Wasn't my call to make. i did see her hand Alan Combs head to him, completely anticipated his tactics and countered before he could impliment. Combs isn't Franken by any stretch of the imagination, i admit, but trying to shut her up or shout her down gets one nowhere, she's been dealing with hostile crowds since College. The Dartmouth Review, which she edited, has been at the center of many a controversy.
The one quirk that seems to bother me about Ingraham is that she often appears to be hyperactive, perpetual motion. Maybe she needs to cut back on coffee ;^)
By NO MEANS is she a wilting Daisy though. She's made a career of disabusing people of that notion.
i never had the pleasure of meeting or seeing Kellyanne Conway, and i agree about Monica Crowley. The Best of the bunch however, (my age is showing here) was Barbara Olsen, who was a freeper until she got on the wrong airplain headed for DC. :^((
Although older, she was IMO, much prettier than any of the above, and VERY smart.
Women like these would kill "blond" steriotypes forever if they were more common.
Well, there is one thing I have repeated over and over again: ANN BEAT FRANKEN ON THE FACTS!
She always had a direct answer to his insane points, he always interrupted her, and she did not get beat by a better debater, it was the way it was played against her that made it look bad!
It was NOT her performance, it was the way the crowd abused her, the way Franken wouldn't let her make a complete point, and the way the TV screen would always switch back to Franken when she spoke, it was the way they played against her that stole what should have been her night, not her doing any losing!
I dont know how to say it any clearer: Ann was not BEAT by Franken, they stole it from her by how she was treated! When I say it went to him, I meant the way the crowd reacted because of their own atitude, the camera, the interruptions, the mood of the crowd, all that!
Everyone here has been told repeatedly that Annie won on the facts and the truth, but the way they handled the presentation, it just didn't look like she did because of the way they made her look bad.
Race, I'm not criticizing. You deserve a medal for not back-handing a few of those around you.
A few years ago I went with a number of the DC FReepers to Howard Univ for a live show of what's-his-name? Takoma got the hook. I said to myself, "never again" will I sit with the enemy.
I'm on your side.
That being said... and since you brought it up...
I'd hate to have you not know about my secret heartthrob, Kellyanne Conway. She's the president of a Republican polling company, and she's on Fox quite a bit. Well spoken, smart as hell. She was Kellyanne Fitzpatrick up until a few years ago, but some guy got lucky. I present exhibit A:
And, if I may break out of the blond modality for a moment, I'd just like to present my other fantasy babe-with-a-brain, Michelle Malkin:

My daughter (who's 8) knows how much I like Ann Coulter and she was watching her one day with me and commented on how smart she was. I told her, yes, she was super smart and that she could grow up and be just like her if she studied hard in school. She looked at me and said, "You mean I can be a really smart Barbie too?"
LOL, I hope she does grow up to be a really smart Barbie.
I think you are wrong. We are protecting our troops in one of the most hostile areas of the world, and our casualties are quite low, and THEIR casualties are quite high.
PLUS, today's findnings, that SARIN GAS warhead, proves we were right.
Ann did a GREAT job, Franken didn't beat her at all in this debate!
Zot alert
