I just returned from a debate between Ann Coulter and Al Franken held at the Bushnell Auditorium in Hartford, Connecticut.
Ann is too over the top for me, but Franken is a liar.
At the local library today, Treason and Lying Liars were on display side by side. I took Lying Liars back into the stacks and filed it. I debated misfiling it to myself, and self lost. That would be too juvenile. But I did get it out of the main display area, anyway.
bttt
It didn't sound like that in his spoken context.
He said he first supported the war, then when no weapons were found, he was against it, then thought we should send in more troops, but now he is against the war.
I dont see how someone can support sending in more troops and be against the war.
When Lebanon (Marine Barracks) happened, I was furious, I supported what we were doing there, but felt that if we weren't going to send in a division, then we had no business there.
We would definately attend something like this. Last night probably wouldn't have worked with my knee. But DEFINATELY LET us know in the future.
Zelig knew about this debate at first... not me. He bought our tickets back in January, I think. As soon as he bought our tickets, the debate was sold out very shortly (I think immediately).
Then, just a few weeks ago, I got an e-mail from CT Forum (I'm now on their email list because we bought the tix online) announcing they were having a simulcast of the debate across town because of the excessive demand for tickets. I admit it just slipped my mind to make some kind of announcement on FR, although I wasn't sure how many far-flung FReepers would be willing to travel many miles for a simulcast.
The simulcast ended up selling out very fast as well. In fact, today's Hartford Courant reported that the Ann vs. Al debate was the largest Forum audience ever
I will definitely let you and other FReepers know if a similar event is coming our way again (as long as I know about it!). You can check The Connecticut Forum's website for future events also.
Hey, how is your knee doing, anyway? I was thinking about you today. Hope you're doing well! :-)
I'm not familiar with this station, but I see after a quick Google search it is out of the Amherst/Northampton area. I'm surprised conservative talk radio was even allowed there at all! ;-)
We would have a difficult time returning to the blue states, unless we returned as missionaries...
There was an article in the WSJ two weeks ago about "Leftport, CT" (a.k.a. Westport). You may have seen it. My parents still live there. My Dad gets so depressed when we discuss politics, because he is so isolated in a sea of leftists. It's the way that many of us felt before Fox News and FR and all the rest. You feel isolated, as though virtually no one thinks the way that you do, so while you believe that you are right, there is not a whole lot of affirmation out there.
Of course, I cheer my Dad up pretty quickly, telling him about the latest cases won by FIRE or the Rutherford Institute, sharing briefings from Heritage, CATO and AEI, explaining the work of ISI and NAS and so forth, but it's clear that I need to get him networked with other Conservatives in the area. If y'all would ping me or FReepmail me when there is an event or get together up there, I'll try to connect him.
On another encouraging note for Conservatives, TJ Rodgers was successfully elected to the Board of Trustees of Dartmouth!
They're Both lawyers. Ann went to Cornell, and Laura went to Dartmouth. i don't know which law schools offhand. Both have clerked for Supreme Court Justices. Laura was the editor of the Dartmouth Review, and is no stranger with typwriter, or word processor.
Ann is the type of lawyer you'd want planning your defense, or the case for the prosecution, while Laura is the lawyer you'd want presenting it in court. Aside from that there really isn't much of a difference in personality, except for the fact that Laura is VERY agressive in public, while Ann is more laid back, and less inclined to confront.
That was her weak point with Franken. Laura Ingraham would have been likely to walk over and kick the S#!t out of Franken about the second time he tried to talk over her.
WHMP = leftist radio from Northampton/Easthapton
and I mean LEFTIST, they play NPR to be balanced to the right!
Northampton. By the way Ch 22 lead the local news on how local homos are going to camp out the night before in front of the city clerks office to get marriage licenses. Yes the Gay State and then this July the Demo-ratic convention in Boston. Starring on center stage Hillary and her side kick Bill. Perverts up here and open borders in the Southwest. What a country!
By the way Race been emailing a mutual friend from Amherst who is presently in Montana who has no desire to hurry back here soon.
Thank you for mentioning that "Leftport, CT" article. I just found it on FR, linked from the WSJ. It is absolutely incredible... appalling, actually. I really feel for your Dad. I had no idea it had become that bad down there. All I can say is I guess we're lucky because most non-FReeper friends and family members we know up here in our area happen to think pretty much the way we do. But seeing, hearing, sitting among about 3,000 CT liberals last night was pretty daunting, I have to admit.
Invite your Dad to CPAC next year! :-)
Ugh, it's gonna be a pretty sad day in the Gay State come Monday. I cannot believe this is happening... :-(
remember what 'Dirty Harry' said in one of his pictures--"a man has to know his limitations"---maybe Ann should consider that before she is sucked into debates with liberal trash
Who sponsored this Franken monologue...er...debate?
Hey, I see all your pics now! :-)
Will do. We haven't had too many events/get togethers up here lately. When we do, they usually tend to be in NYC.

Great news! I will inform zelig...
"Ann Coulter is one fine intelligent lady with good values .
Franken is a liberal fried fruitcake from Saturday Night Live."
No freaking kidding! Ann is a lawyer with a degree from one of the best law schools in the country (U of Michigan, if I'm not mistaken), who has written three extremely well-researched books and produces insightful columns on a regular basis.
Al Franken is a comedian. A comedian! Did he finish college? High school? He wrote a book, right? Well, is there even one footnote in that book, a footnote to a primary source, like Ann's books have? Doubtful.
How IRRITATING that people would accord what Franken has to say greater weight than what Ann says.
By the way, I just finished Treason--I had the local library buy it for me, and it's probably the only copy of Treason in the entire province of Quebec, LOL.
Who knows, maybe some will read the book and be brought over from the dark side. :)
I dont spell bad, I type bad!
Not much difference between this "debate" and a Stalinist show trial.
