The Password Matter
Not Applicable | May 14, 2004 | RoadRunner96

I'll tell you all; after reading of the password incident with Moussaoui and Berg; I will tell you, living on a budget; I am one of these guys, who bought my second computer from an entrepeneur I would say, not Best Buy, etc.

Well, before, I bought it, I was trying to get him to fix my older computer, but I figured, from all I could gather, that it was cooked, a hardware problem and he told me the hard drive was scratched.

The bottom line here, met fellow, Arab, working in a convenience store, not his own, but they had a sign for computer repair in the window. This computer is excellent btw and part of my briefing him, on my trouble with the computer, was I could not get online, but this was not the central problem. He did wish to have my password, and to get to see, if he could make the modem work, I gave it to him. I no longer use that prior service, this being about 2 months ago. But I am thinking, of just reporting this incident to proper authorities.

Thoughts?

btw, I bought my first computer, from a Lebanese Christian who did a very fine job at a good price, on a computer, that still is going, purchased about '95, though it is Windows 3.X. Well, that's the last bit of detail. This fellow currently, is assuredly, not Christian not to sound prejudicial in any way. I will not say where I am, but a state, where Moussaoui did spend some time.

Paranoid?

Maybe, answering my own question, http://www.dhs.gov/dhspublic/ Dept. of Homeland Security, found, on a banner, at www.muscle.net , must be Arnie's involvement.

what service did you give the password too? i would change it if I were you, and make sure nothing was charged to your account....

even logging into a computer someone can snag your password with a program called a key logger...

Could you post your question in a more direct way?

If you are having a problem with your password, or want to know that it is secure, call tech support for your ISP and ask them to change it for you.

No, you do not need to consult the FBI (or even the cops). If everyone who gave their password to someone else, even Arabs/muslims, would contact the cops they would be inundiated.

The thing is the Al Queda is not going to be coming dredging for American passwords, and even IF they did (and pigs flew) the authorities could easily just come and make some background checks on you, in which case you would check out ok. This whole Al Queda grabbing passwords thing is just a coincidence ....anyways it is much easier to set up a new email account at Kinkos or a university than to convince some citizen to fork over their password.

When it comes to passwords, the people to be wary of are criminals and not terrorists. Criminals can try to 'sniff' for your financial info, but Usama is not going to try to get into the Pentagon's mainframe using your hotmail account. Or even your computer ISP.

THanks all; that homeland security website probably has most of anything important I need.

If not clear; password to my online account was given to a Middle Easterner, Non=Judeo-Christian, for him to check my modem and computer.

One of the responses I got I think, addressed this directly; as to whether, I should report this.

Excuse me if not more clear.

I don't think the fact that he was a Middle Easterner has anything to do with it. If you feel your password was given to a dubious character, have it changed. Call your ISP provider and let them know. It's very simple. NO FBI involvement needed.
