FORT LEWIS -- A U.S. soldier accused of trying to help al-Qaida should be court-martialed, the officer overseeing a hearing in his case said Thursday.
"These are serious criminal offenses that present a real and present danger to U.S. soldiers serving in Iraq," Col. Patrick J. Reinert said.
Reinert's recommendation will be passed on to the base commander at Fort Lewis, Lt. Gen. Edward Soriano, who ultimately will decide whether Spc. Ryan G. Anderson will face a court-martial and whether he might face the death penalty.
Anderson, 26, a Muslim convert and Fort Lewis-based guardsman, was arrested in February and charged with five counts of trying to provide the terrorist network with information about U.S. troop strength and tactics as well as methods for killing American soldiers.

That guy has been SOOOO dissapeared.... I'd like to think he is being peeled for what he knows, and WHO he knows.....
There are news reports about him from time to time. He's being held at Ft. Bragg, and they seem to be moving slowly on his case -- probably for good reasons. The military is very reluctant to carry about a death penalty, but his case just cries out for it. I think they're taking their time and doing it right.

I should add another observation to our discussion from the other day about NW terrorists/sympathizers......Many are recruited after serving in the armed service, inside the prisons and I'm seeing too many being converted while attending universities. Our own institutions are their suppliers. Ain't DIVERSITY grand!!??
