How hard would it be to come out and say that Berg had no involvement with terrorists or their activities, in plain English?

His choice of words, keeping in mind that he is a well educated articulate man, are interesting, aren't they? It really doesn't clarify a thing for those who are suspicious of Berg's activities in Iraq. I don't think ANSWER and their ilk support Muslim fundamentalist, extremists. They do however support their anti-American agenda and the spreading of American, capitalistic ideals.

This I do know. Berg's Father blames US and does not blame Islam.

You can be well educated and articulate, and still speak plain if you wish. His choice of words allow wiggle room in case this blows up in their faces. They can claim plausible denial this way.

Ashcroft isn't winning any fans up here in the peanut gallery...

Ashcroft said:"The suggestion that Mr. Berg was in some way involved in terrorist activity, or may have been linked in some way to terrorist activity, is a suggestion that we do not have any ability to support and we do not believe is a valid one," Ashcroft said at a news conference."

When I heard him say that it sure perked my ears up. That was a very strange phrase.

That was my point, he didn't wish to be less obtuse. My theory is that terrorists and ANSWER types share an anti-American agenda and the absence of evidence of collaboration does not necessarily mean an absence mutual interests.

"Another strange thing. If you look at the image of Berg's body on the bridge, it is dressed in civilian clothing. Would his killers have re-dressed him to be dumped on a bridge after cutting off his head? He was wearing an orange jumpsuit at the time of his death."

Excellent point.

Has any one, any where, been able to find WHO Berg was doing all this telecommunications work for?

I'm curious as to that as well. What's it cost to live over there? I heard a price of $30 for a hotel, is that about right? I suppose one could stay over there for a while without using up much cash.

But a friend of Berg's said that Berg said he was making a lot of money. So someone had to have been paying him. There should be records on that.

Berg was working with terrorists but somehow betrayed them.

My leading possibility is "Berg was an enthusiatic lad and was interested in putting up cell towers and would work for anyone. He naively thought these people wanted to do some work and was captured."

What gets me about the still images from the video (I don't want to watch it) is that he looked really calm in the beginning. That makes me think that either he was in on some sort of scam (ie captured by fake terrorists and escaped) or he wanted to try and help the terrorists get someone released from prison. I sure as heck know if I was on camera with those nutballs I would be fighting for my life.

Pure speculation, but maybe the jumpsuit was on over his civvies?

I watched the video. He was very calm until he saw the knife. Then he screamed his head off. No pun intended.

It is strange, but par for the course with these folks. They all do it.

of course I approve of not spilling the beans on an investigation, but the quote was the most weasely thing I've heard since the Clinton years. Now that answer group is comprised of some hard core anti Americans, with a whole lot of dummies that think they're doing the right thing. The dummies are carrying water for the terrorists, and have no idea how much harm they're doing to their own country.

Like they say...ignorance is no excuse.

The picture of the guy on the bridge wasn't Berg. My mistake.

A classic difference without a distiction.
