It was no tongue slip, no mindless gaffe.
Known for his comfort behind microphones and finely tuned political instincts, Gov. Robert L. Ehrlich Jr. has refused to apologize or retreat from remarks on a radio show last week in which he called multiculturalism "bunk" and "crap."

Sounds like a future PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE talking.......... In another part of the article, Erlich says he is an immigrant himself, so President might be out of the question. Governor of Maryland for Life might have to do...

Ribas scores 4 out of 4 on the smear-o-meter. Does your meter only go to four? What about the Crusades, Torquemada, religious zealots (as long as they are Christian) Matthew Shephard, Rodney King, The HUAC- there was no mention of sexist or homophobe about this Republican...
Think of the justification for Ribas complaint --after all, he OFFENDED a McDonald's employee...Ribas could have thrown out all the stops and really impresed the judges with a 10.

Think of the justification for Ribas complaint --after all, he OFFENDED a McDonald's employee... It wasn't Erlich who offended the Hispanic McDonalds employee. It was Schaefer, the Democratic Comptroller, former Mayor of Baltimore, former Governor of Maryland and Eminence Gris of the Maryland Democratic Party who bitched about the Hispanic McDonalds employee at a Board of Public Works meeting. Erlich made his comment in a context of a discussion about Schaefer's comments.
So you have the Democratic Comptroller railing about them dad-burn Mexicans at a public meeting, and the Republican Governor takes the hit. Just another day in the People's Republic of Maryland...

I wholeheartedly agree with the Governor;
Idiots like Jesse Jackson will want to showboat about this some, but they don't get it...being against multiculturism is not the same as being against other races.
It's the side effects of multiculturism that are wrecking the country; each race and nationality cannot expect the whole country to cater to them, we call it the UNITED States for a reason.
And, IF there could be true "multiculturism", then ALL races and nationalities would have to participate. One segment of society cannot exist just to support and cater to another.
Multiculturism greatly amplifies Mr. Lincoln's "...you can't please ALL of the people, ALL of the time...". If you please one group, you make another group mad...case in point is this article.
If we are to simulate "multiculturism", then the contest of every so-called "minority" needs to quit their whining and pull their share of the wagon...now...not 200 years ago.
I refuse to put any more effort into "multiculturism" until "reverse" discrimination is halted.

(IMHO your other examples are for issues already represented in the Big Lib Six.)

Ribas scores 4 out of 4 on the smear-o-meter.Yeah, as we all know, insisting that people be able to take a fast food order in "Lingua Americana" is only a hairbreadth away from seeing their charred, dead bodies hanging from the boughs of an oak tree. Moroons!

"The Melting Pot guarantees loyalty to America"BINGO!
I think it was Victor D. Hanson who said that multiculturalism means hyphenated Americans and hyphenated Americans have hyphenated loyalties.
I thought this sentence was particularly illuminating, "If it is to mean anything that we have a conservative governor, they might want to change some of the rhetoric and pave the way for multiculturalism not to be worshipped as an unquestioned good.". As another poster pointed out - the equivalent of the naked emperor.

From his biography:
Governor Robert L. Ehrlich, Jr., the only son of Nancy and Bob Sr., was born on November 25, 1957 in Arbutus, Maryland. I think that "I'm an immigrant too" was rhetorical.

Gov. Ehrlich has stated several times that he does not read the Baltimore Sun. He has a staffer with a strong stomach do it and let him know if the Sun is praising him for anything. If they are praising him, he knows he is on the wrong track!

Roman Republic bump! In the Roman Republic, "Mint Magistrates" were selected from young patricians early in their public careers. The responsibilities included safeguarding the weight and purity of Roman Republican coinage. The rights included the right to mint designs to honor their family and values.
In 54 BC, M. Junius Brutus was a Mint Magistrate. His value of Roman Republican Liberty were reflected in his choice of coin design.

Denarius minted by M. Junius Brutus in 54 BC. OBVERSE: Personification of Libertas. REVERSE: L. Junius Brutus walking between two lictors preceded by an accensus. The design honors the ancestor L. Junius Brutus who was Consul in 509 BC when the Tarqins were expelled.

I read that book before I knew who Schlesinger was. Subsequently, whenever I'd hear of him being associated with whatever leftish cause or attitude, I'd think, "This can't be the same guy that wrote that book."

Multiculturalism" is just a "hide behind" word for anti-American, anti-Western Culture. You got that right.
What the hell was wrong with the Great Melting Pot anyway? All the advocates of 'multiculturalism' actually advocate is annihilation of American identity in favor of cultural partisanship. Forget that bullcrap.

Many of our ideals of civic virtue and courage come from the Roman Republic. Cincinnatus, Horatius, the Twelve Tablets of the Law, the Senate...
