KERBALA, Iraq (Reuters) - Fresh fighting erupted between U.S. troops and militiamen loyal to rebel Shi'ite cleric Moqtada al-Sadr in the holy Iraqi city of Kerbala on Thursday, residents said.

Gunfire echoed from narrow streets just a few hundred meters (yards) from the Imam Hussein mosque, one of Shi'ite Islam's most revered shrines which sits in the center of the city. A column of black smoke rose from behind the mosque.

The clashes followed a lull in fighting for several hours after fierce fighting on Wednesday, when the U.S. military said up to 20 militiamen might have been killed.

The troops should look for a little fat man with a big mouth, open -- always open -- and panties on his head. If he makes a run for it, he should be a candidate to go on parade like "Chinese" Gordon in Khartoum.

"holy Iraqi city of Kerbala"

Are all the cities in the Middle East "holy"? Just wondering.

Some Are, Some Not.

Mecca, Medina, are holy for all Muslims.
Kerbala, Najaf, Samara, Mashad and Damascus are holy cities for Shiites!
Sunnis don't have holy sites or things like that!

I was wondering the same thing. They could have saved much time in calling their country the Holy Country of Iraq. I mean, with all these Holy Cities, those who live in the country must really feel jealous.
