CBS and Dan Rather should be held accountable (Warning: Graphic photos down thread)

Posted on 05/12/2004 9:43:09 AM PDT by jg0510

I posted the following message on the CBS message board yesterday and also sent the same message to Fox News' Bill O'Reilly. If you agree with my message, I would appreciate it if you would forward this e-mail to others in your address book. I believe this is very important and a "grass roots" effort may be the only way to force Dan Rather, CBS, and others to accept the responsibility of their careless and destructive actions:

"I think all American citizens should be outraged at CBS for making the "abuse" pictures public. CBS has done serious damage to the relationship between the US and the Middle East and has endangered our soldiers in Iraq. This is a matter that the Army should have handled internally and privately. 60 Minutes II and Dan Rather should be answering why they choose to jeopardize the security of our soldiers and our relationship with foreign countries for their "big story"."

Since I wrote this yesterday, a US citizen working in Iraq was beheaded in retaliation. If this story had not been made public by CBS, it is doubtful this atrocity would have happened. It is time for CBS be held accountable and should appear before the Senate Armed Services Committee to explain why they have compromised the safety of Americans and our foreign policy.

Thank you for passing this information to other concerned citizens.

Better, boycott their sponsors & let the sponsors know why you will not buy their products. Someone needs to begin a list of companies & their contact information.

I have no trouble making the world safe for her. I am just short of the "nuke 'em all, and let Allah sort 'em out" crowd. I don't want to be haunted by the pictures of what those animals have done, however.

Now, don't misunderstand, I have no, none, zero, pity for those animals. I would have no trouble shooting any who show up at my place. However, I don't need to maintain in my mind pictures of what they have done. 911 was enough.

CBS is a willing accomplice of the people who did the act, as both are at war with out country.

Glad I missed that one.

Complete and utter bullshit to speculate that Rather caused the beheading. The jihaddis like cutting off heads. In case you have not noticed its happened a few times already, most notably the Italian guy and Pearl.

I agree, he didn't "cause" it. He has made war on our country. His goal was to break the American people's will to do what is needed to be done.

The Pictures on this thread..as graphic as they are need to serve as a reminder of what we are facing. I know that I am echoing the setiment of the many here. The MSM and the left I am sure are scared that if ALL photos of the atrocities such as Mr. Berg's vicious and barbaric murder and the KBR contractors burned bodied hanging from the bridge in Fallujah, the WTC pics, etc... If these made the papers and newscast on a nightly basis it would spell doom for the democrats at this point. The left proved the mettle for a fight with Somalia... once blood was shed they wanted to turn and run...The left the death of the saliors of the Cole unresponded to....The left was scared after September 11th at the amount of unity and outrage America felt that is why the pulled the images. We need to stop being PC about all of this. It is now time or soon will be where All Americans regardless of political party, race, religion, preference etc... Are going to have to decide where they stand on America and freedom... What is CBS et al going to do when we are fighting suicide bombers on the streets of LA or NY...I appreciate all listing to my rambling here... I am former Navy... and willing to put my life on the line for my country again if need be, and hope that those that I stand shoulder to shoulder with are fighting for a free america. History has a funny way of repeating it self like WWII, this is not a war of economy or commerce this has become a war of culture brought to US soil on 9/11/01. Japan was famous for beheading prisoners also along with the awful experiments and the Germans were not much better. Did America shirk away from that fight, no, but it took time to bring the Amercian people around then the same as now, and I feel that these pics need to be available to all to make their own call. instead of an liberal editor or produce determining what I should see. thanks again for the RANT space folks.. you can disagree i respect that it is what makes America great. God Bless all and of course God Bless the USA.

"I believe you need along with the rest of America to view this pictures, this is the enemy! And for the sake of your granddaughter America better wake up. We are not the enemy!"

I know we are not the enemy. I know that the enemy is a brutal, demon possessed, third world savage. I watched 9/11 unfold right before my eyes, and my spine has been steel since then.

I do not, however, need to fill my mind with more vivid pictures of brutality, to the point that I can no longer love or enjoy my life.

If I do, they have won.

Even Johnny Cockroach gets a heads-up by the LA prosecutors on everything they had on OJ.

Probably not the best choice of words in the context of this thread.

He has made war on our country. His goal was to break the American people's will to do what is needed to be done.

Before I jump into this too deeply, I want to be certain I am not misunderstanding you. Is the "he/his" you are referring to in the above quote Dan Rather?

Sure, they might have done it anyway, but now they are able to use it as an excuse to make their own political statement to the rest of the Middle Eastern countries against the US. My point is that the prisoner abuse photos and story should have been handled interally and privately by the Army. What good has come out of CBS breaking this story?

If you watched the hearings yesterday you would have heard that the "abuses" reported by the ICRC conserned overcrowding and our not releasing prisioners fast enough. They also complained of the "abuse" of holding Saddam's henchmen in solitary confinement.

The "abuse" of holding prisoners too long was already being acted upon. I don't know if we did anything about the "abuse" of holding the 44 of the 55 deck of card guys in solitary.

I never watch CBS, except for 60 minutes. 60 minutes is like NPR news, PBS Nova; these programs are too far to the left, yet they are high quality reporting for intellectual snobs like me. I hate them, but must watch them. Dan Rather, however is so far to the left that I cannot watch him, even for one minute.

Everyone should accept responsibility for their own actions. The Iraqi thugs are responsible for Nick Bergs' death. I never said they wouldn't have done this without the CBS/Dan Rather reporting. But CBS/Dan Rather have given them an opportunity to use this as an excuse to justify their actions to the rest of the Middle East and to damage our foreign relations with the rest of the world.
