Kristinn just called me and asked me to post this thread.
He just called CBS Evening News and asked them if they were going to show the militant Islamists' video of the beheading of American Nick Berg.
The woman who answered the phone said that they were going to do a story on it, but they were NOT going to show the full video.
He asked them, "Why not, since you had no problem showing the pictures of the Iraqis being abused by our guys in the prison. Don't you think turnabout is fair play?"
The woman got mad and said, "Thank you for your comment." and then hung up the phone.
Call CBS Evening News and let your voice be heard!

I think showing this video on the public airways where it can be indiscrimanently viewed is not the wise or prudent thing to do. I think it was irresponsible for ALL the newsprograms to show the prison 'abuse' photos and it is even more irresponsible to show this video (which I have seen unedited). Two wrongs do not make a right.
I do agree that the videos should be seen by all mature persons in America - I think s should see it and they should be seething at what they see. But that video does not belong on the public airways - neither do these 'abuse' photos.

I find it just a little bit disturbing and disingenuous that some of the same people who called for CBS to have their broadcast license revoked because they aired a two second live shot of Janet Jackson's boob are now demanding CBS air the grisly beheading of an innocent young American.
Some of you need to seriously grow up.

Which of us would that be, specifically?

Well? Where's your pappy? Let me guess: He tested his moronic theory and had his balls ripped off by an enraged pack of dogs. No surprise there.

The failure to show the video has less to do with the content than the politics. Many US newspapers didn't give the Berg story wide coverage, yet they are still frontpaging the "torture" story. The murder of Berg puts the Iraqi prison scandal in context.

It wasn't long ago when the media REFUSED to show the torching and mutilation of those 4 American contractors. They didn't want to OFFEND anyone!!!!!
They don't want to OFFEND anyone by showing the beheading video. They didn't want to OFFEND anyone by showing video of those poor souls jumping to their deaths during the burning of the Twin Towers.
But they just can't get enough of showing the abuse of Iraqi prisoners. It's because the media thought they were going to destroy President Bush that way.
I hope to God the American people will be able to see through all of this.

You think this is bad - In today's Fresno Bee on the FRONT PAGE is yet another disgusting story WITH PHOTOS of Iraqi prisoner abuse and there's a picture of an Egyptian woman screaming with outrage about it.
Meanwhile the beheading story is on Page A-9 with no photo and the story tries to blame President Bush, etc.
This is really weird.

Please tell me you're just being obtuse.
The 4 contractors = graphic images of death
Nick Berg's beheading = graphic images of death
Jumpers from the Twin Towers = graphic images of death
Iraqi prisoner abuse = pretty innocuous images, no death.
A lot of time FReepers can look pretty silly. Don't exacerbate that.

You miserable POS. You accused me of being a hypocrite and you can't be bothered even to back your libel with evidence. And you claim to be a Christian? You're no Christian, lying and bearing false witness against your neighbor. What does the bible say about that. Hmm?? I'm STILL F'ING WAITING!

Keep calling, folks! Let them know you're outraged at this savagery, and at CBS's biased coverage of "atrocities."

CBS claims that FCC regulations prevent them from airing the photos. I contacted the
FCC two days ago, and received this reply:
'Thank you for contacting the FCC, this is an automated response to acknowledge receipt of your e-mail. We will try to respond to your general inquiry within 2 business days of this automated reply. Due to the complexity of certain issues the response time may go beyond 2 business days, but will never exceed 20 business days.'
I expect I'll get a reply somewhere towards the end of the twentieth business day, at which time I'll let CBS, and probably the FCC and my congresscreatures, have it with both barrels. If it turns out that the FCC really does control the press, then I'm afraid CBS is off the hook.
