Good. Lt. Gen. Lance Smith there again. He's the only one who testified with Rumsfeld, Myers, and others last week who had seen the photos before.
To: maryz
Smith: Stands by comments on Friday. Expresses regrets for abuse.
In every case, recommendations have been or are being implemented re policy, procedures, leadership. Investigations ongoing, should give more answers.

Taguba up. Told to speak in the mike
sigh
Directed on 1-24-04 to look into the allegations.

Howard Fineman look-a-like, Stephen Cambone, Undersecretary of Defense for Intelligence gives best explanation yet for why Bush said Geneva Convention didn't apply to Al Quada prisoners. Because, he said, the Geneva Convention deals with states and countries, and Al Quada is not a state. Then further explains how same standards of Geneva will apply.
He does good job of explaining the links in the chain of command
Lt Gen Lance Smith, Air Force Central Command Deputy Commander, again apologizes to Iraqi people on behalf of CENTCOM. He says all "fixes" have been implemented already. He says some investigations are still ongoing, most significant is the General Fay investigation into Military Intelligence responsibility at the prison.

Still don't understand why the RATS are upset about the photos... perhaps it makes them nostalgic for the Oval Office when BJ was president....

Taguba says there is a separate investigation ongoing for military intelligence and civilian contractors.

Taguba: 24 Jan 2004, he was directed to conduct investigation at Abu Ghraib. Will discuss purpose, findings of investigation.
Inquire into all facts and circumstances around abuse -- allegation of abuse.
Inquire into lapses, allegations re Abu Ghraib.
Investigation training, standards, command policies and command climate.
Specific findings of fact and make recommendations.
Originally not re intelligence. But gathered evidence re MI and contractors. Recommended separate investigation re possible interrogation practices. His own investigation limited to MP personnel.
Assembled team. Told them to maintain objectivity. Maintain Army values in all dealings; be thorough and fair.
Commends professionalism of teammates. Commends courage and selflessness of soldiers who brought it to light.

Taguba's investigation limited to abuses by MPs.
Someone has already pegged Taguba as a rat. We shouldn't attack this man. He was tasked with investigating abuses, and he did so.

I know people who've served with MG Fast (MI), and I've read some not-so-favorable press about BG Karpinski (MP).
Karpinski is toast, and Fast is going to suffer for this but I don't think as much. She is coming to be the commander at my Post (Ft. Huachuca), so we'll see.

Taguba: Small band engaged in this behavior and thereby harmed reputation of all.

"Still don't understand why the RATS are upset about the photos."
If they were really upset they would order them sealed so as to not continue humiliation.

They are not bothered one iota by these photos. Their only concern is that these photos make good ammo against the administration. They want a trophy head. Once they get one trophy head, they will create other scandalous issues to get more before the November election. The Dems smell blood and want a bloodletting.

Sounds like he is a team player to me. Hope so at least. His Bio reveals nothing. Actually looks like a good career.
To: Republican Red
His bio is impressive.
