MANHATTAN, Kan. - Senate Minority Leader Tom Daschle decried Monday what he called the "startling meanness" of American politics.
The South Dakotan, who has been Senate Democratic leader for nine years and is seeking re-election in November, said campaigns were especially ugly in 2002 and that the ugliness continues.
"Today, enormous new challenges confront each and every one of us," he said. "We will not meet those challenges or seize those opportunities if we indulge in the brutal politics of division, if we attempt to silence those who have other ideas."

Let me see if I understand this correctly. The Military has been investigating this since last January if not earlier. Charges have been brought against those who participated. Letters were written to 17 senators requesting they have charges dropped against nephew or Uncle would go to the press. 17 Senators would not answer back because a)Military was investigating and Justice needs to do their job. b) Do not respond and allow Uncle to go to the Media so Bush can be attacked. If all this is true, and Senators were aware of this, than why the outrage now? Hmmm...Mrs Clinton???? Democrats blew it again....

This is the pattern of this past year.
The rats take an event that is known, put it into a cauldron of hate and let it simmer on a back burner.
Then when they are ready they break out the caulron and spew its contents all over their media outlets. They still dream of electronically lynching GW like they did with Nixon in Watergate.
Now they have the internet to battle, conservative talk show hosts, Fox news and a few conservative print outlest.
Their lies and spins get exposed. They back away and cauldron back on the back burners to try it again.
In Summary, you have nailed with this comment:
"Let me see if I understand this correctly. Typical HACKworth.
To: Howlin
I thought there were 17. Who are the others? Surely there are/were more GOPers contacted than wer're seing mentioned elsewhere on this thread...
To: eno_
You are excusing the senators in retrospect. Should they assume every crime brought to their attention is already being investigated? No. However, as they seem to be dems and therefore would jump on ANY chance to bash Bush or the military or the war in Iraq, it seems reasonable to assume that they didn't just dismiss the claims.
I could be wrong.
