19 Insurgents Killed as Coalition Forces Engage Enemy in Baghdad
BAGHDAD, Iraq Task Force Baghdad Soldiers encountered numerous anti-Iraqi forces Sunday, killing 19 in a series of separate engagements in the eastern Baghdad Thawra district.
All 19 insurgent casualties carried rocket-propelled-grenade launchers. The first encounter with the RPG gunners occurred early Sunday morning, when a grenade hit a Bradley Fighting Vehicle while on patrol. There were no injuries to personnel or damage to equipment.
Later Sunday morning, an Iraqi police station jointly manned with Coalition forces came under fire. Task Force Soldiers responded to the scene and secured the area. No injuries or damage were reported.
Two anti-Iraqi forces were killed at about noon Sunday, when they attempted to engage Task Force Baghdad Soldiers with an RPG. The Soldiers returned fire, killing the two insurgents. No Coalition casualties resulted from the incident.
An afternoon coalition patrol engaged two more insurgents. The anti-Iraqi RPG team was killed in the engagement, with no injuries to Coalition forces.
Fifteen insurgents carrying RPGs were engaged by a Coalition close air support aircraft. Coalition forces reported no casualties from the incident.
Anti-Iraqi forces took to the streets of Thawra City one day after the detention of an alleged financier and lieutenant for Muqtadas militia.

Cordon and Search Yields Insurgent Lieutenant and Financier
BAGHDAD, Iraq - Task Force Baghdad Soldiers detained six Iraqis suspected of anti-Coalition activities during a cordon and search operation at an east Baghdad office complex May 8.
The insurgents are alleged members of the Muqtada militia. One detainee is an alleged militia financier; the other is reportedly a key lieutenant in the militia.
Soldiers also confiscated weapons, computers, cell phones, documents and compact discs during the operation. http://www.cjtf7.com/media-information/May%202004/040510a.htm |

I wonder if the 19 dead would rather be abused prisoners?

Folks, since the "prison abuse" scandal broke, by my calculations we have absolutely been slaughtering these guys. We went into Najaf---NO RESISTANCE. Last night the Marines went back into Fallujah---NO RESISTANCE. We are kicking butt in Karbala.
Increasingly it looks like those photos indeed had a tremendous impact on the Iraqis---to our benefit.

They're taking it to them. One of the things I have consistantly read on the Iraqi blogs is that they can't figure out why we haven't done anything, they WANT us to go after these guys.
