Patrick Toomey's defeat of Arlen Specter in the GOP senatorial primary in Pennsylvania was a watershed for conservatives.
Despite remarkably energetic support for the liberal Specter from President Bush and the conservative Sen. Rick Santorum, Toomey thrust his message for fiscal and cultural conservatism into the maw of the Rockefeller wing of the Republican Party and it choked.
There, I got that off my chest.

Have at it...

All Patrick Toomey need do from this point on is to maintain his true conservative values and ALWAYS compare them to the RINOs!
He may not have won this round, but with perseverance and showing the people the Courage, Honor, and Integrity of a true conservative, he will win over more and more voters.
Keep it up, Toomey! Hurrah!

good post. I think conservatives should be energized by the Toomey fight. Getting 49% of the vote, against a 4 time Senator, the White House and Santorum shows a major accomplishment.

Well, I've said it before and I'll say it again.
I think we need to vote the Democrat line against Specter this fall. I would hardly ever recommend such an action in normal circumstances, but this isn't a normal circumstance.
Specter NEVER votes with the Republicans on major votes. In particular, he is pro-abortion and he refuses to vote for Bush's judicial nominees. For these reasons he is absolutely useless in the Senate.
We need to send Karl Rove a message. NO MORE RINO PRO-ABORTS SHOVED DOWN OUR THROATS.

Tommey should build on the grass root network that he established during the primary and run against Ed Rendell in 2006.

Hang in there and try again in 6 years. Or run for Governor of PA.

One of the sadder facts of modern politics is that the Republican Party is *far* more worried about political victory then advancing conservatism. And this is taken to an extreme length as can be seen in this election.
And what makes this truly a problem is the Republican Party is our only hope to advance conservatism. Make no mistake - third partyism is a recipe for disaster.
Honestly, the only solution to the problem is to reform the media right now. Liberals need not make difficult decisions politically because the media covers for them.
To reverse this recent primary, a liberal Toomey defeating a center-right Specter would be called a maverick, an independent, and a grass roots upstart as opposed to the far rightwing label the real Toomey would have faced going into the general election had he won the primary.
Now, how does one change the media, or more specifically in a reasonable amount of time? That is the million dollar question...
There is no question things are better today then they were 10, 20 years ago, but at the current pace we are still decades away from any sort of parity.

I hate RINOs more than anyone on this board, but it is Specter or Joe "The President is a warmonger" Hoeffel and a possible Democrat Senate. Specter is a douche, but Hoeffel is a used douche.

Correct. In fact, RINO Barbara Hafner recently switched to the RAT party. The media likes to portray her as a sensible centrist.

Somebody 'splain to me why a serious write in campaign is not being discussed.
Or has it, and I've missed it?
If a low Pubbie turn-out in the primary brought in 49%, why couldn't an energized higher turn out bring victory?
We know the conservative stand resonates in Pennsylvania.
Seems to me all we have to decide on is the name ... Pat Toomey or Patrick Toomey.

My2 cents worth says that this is exactly what the "Two-Party Cartel' can't have happen - a 60 field majority because then they would be exposed for the frauds they are. There will NEVER be a true conservative congress because these pol-puppets controlled entirely by the elites, who have much to lose under a conservative agenda, will not let this occur. We must push for a 3rd party that truly represents 95% of the people living on my street. This cartel is a fraud.

Toomey is a good bet to be either a future Senator or Governor if he plays the game right.

One of the sadder facts of modern politics is that the Republican Party is *far* more worried about political victory then advancing conservatism. You get Zip done when you are out of power. Ask the libertarians how far consistency has gotten them. The sad thing about real politics is that it requires compromise to win. The closeness of this primary challenge was a good thing though: its going to frighten some other RINO's into voting like republicans, Sphincter however is beyond redemption, he's too damn old to care or change. I still rather have a third class fireman than a first class arsonist ( Like a RAT replacement )
