Chris Wallace Leaves me in Tears
4-9-04 | patriciaruth

Posted on 05/09/2004 2:38:45 PM PDT by patriciaruth

Chris Wallace advertised his Sunday news show as a time to put the names of our fallen soldiers in context.

Ted Koppel had simply read the names of the soldiers who have sacrificed all, the last full measure of devotion, for us to live in peace and for the Iraqis to have a unique and blessed chance to find peace and security and democracy. So, Chris Wallace decided to have a show to put those sacrifices in context, and talk about all the good things that the American soldiers had done in Iraq.

So, I tuned in, and I am still sobbing and shaking with anger remembering how he started the show with over fifteen minutes of a rehash of the last 10 days feeding frenzy over the terrible abuses a few soldiers had perpetrated on some Iraqi prisoners.

CONTEXT?!?!

THIS is the context you want me to remember our war dead!!

You garbage, you thoughtless garbage!

I was too upset to watch the "tribute" which came after the filthy trash.

I'll never watch that cruel, demented show ever again.

Fox did not carry it live.
My question to you George:
"what time did Fox show it?"
It was NOT shown during the daytime on Friday,
nor during the night time, prime time, either!

GeorgeW23225, you are wrong about this.
The SBC lasted 1 hour and 20 minutes!
ONLY C-Span carried it.

Perhaps we could forward this entire thread over to the BOSSES over at FNC? CNN does not have to improve its ratings if Fox keeps forgetting why they became number one.

In a related story, notice how the media is dead silent on the tanking of the liberal radio network...

My reaction too. Appreciated that Wallace did the tribute (which surprised me)but, full hour should have been devoted to the accomplishments. Sending emails to John Gibson, Brit Hume and John Kascich(sp?) suggesting such a show.

When Tony Snow hosted FNS, I rarely missed a show. Now, when I watch, I watch the last half hour to hear the panel. Thank God for Brit Hume and Charles Krauthammer.

Right now c-span is airing an interview
with John Kerry's man servant.

They are calling him a "personal assistant"

It is the most inane interview. Ridiculous! LOL!

Each of us have our own demons we've GOT to deal with in this life.

Mine: I was diagnosed in 1979 with Wilson's Disease after the copper level accumulated in my body COMPLETLY destroyed my central nervous system. Took 2 years of therapy to get me back to semi-normal functioning status.

5/8/1986 My 23 yr old brother died from liver failure associated with Wilson's Disease.

1/6/2002 I underwent a liver transplant( extremely successful) because my liver had shut down. I was a few hours away from being buried beside my brother.

I realize it's apples and oranges we're talking about in terms of tragedy. The fact remains ....none of us can say we've suffered tragedy that no one else can understand because no one else has has walked in our shoes. Truth is , people have a hard enough time walking in their own shoes to worry about walking in my shoes or your shoes or anybody else's. How we deal with our problems in life is directly related to the quality of life we lead. I choose to turn stumbling blocks into stepping stones.

I guess those that haven't suffered this loss can't.

Your tribute to the lost is moving.

I must say that even though I live in Utah, when 9/11 happened, I weeped buckets in the following weeks.

A friend from work instant messaged me that a plane had hit a tower, I thought he was joking, and I told him so. He assured me it was real, and to turn on the TV. I was devastated.

Based on a portion of your original post:

I was too upset to watch the "tribute" which came after the filthy trash.

I'm sorry you were so upset you couldn't watch the tribute.

I wish who's in charge of programming would have dedicated at least an entire hour or more to the tribute, instead of making it a small portion of someone's show.

I hope enough of us who were able to see it, will express to FOX via email etc., exactly what I've just related.

Thank you for posting your tribute.

Cici is so smug and snotty!

There are no words to describe
her obnoxious tone and facial expressions -
rarely seen in women beyond high school age.

And if lack of etiquette or ability to control
one's tongue qualifies as "individualism,"
then I suppose Ta-ray-za is an INDIVIDUAL.

you are entitled to your opinion, as are the other posters. I also never questioned your character, only your accuracy. I also never said that Fox devoted 1 hour and 20 minutes of coverage. I doubt most people would have watched all of it any way. What I said was that Fox certainly gave it PLENTY of play throughout the entire day. I'm sure no other network did. Obviously, it wasn't enough coverage to suit you. I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree on this. Just be sure of one thing......If I ever get near John Kerry, I'd spit on him, for all the lies, the pain and suffering he caused for our vets!! I WILL be in Washington, D.C. in SUPPORT of our Viet Nam Vets on September 12th.

I don't agree at all. Ok he talked about what had happened this week then he told the other side of the story and said more will come in the future.

I agree, billva... I thought it was a good piece -- certainly something you won't see on any other Sunday morning talk show. Glad to hear that more of this perspective and context will be presented in the future. I'm sad to see Freepers that allow "good" to become the enemy of "great." Can FoxNews be better? Sure. Is Chris Wallace great? No. But never thought Tony was particularly good in that role -- and everyone looks second rate compared with Brit, but you can't have him doing everything. FoxNews is a treasure despite a few flaws.

I have no idea why...I thought I was being very level headed. The moderator should probably pull this whole thread anyway.

Too bad FOX didn't cover it like the 9/11 commission hearings.
Thank You in advance for attending the Sept 12 event.

I agree. I think some people here are only reading what they want to read, and over reacting to the rest of the posts. I thought my posts were "polite", and I tried to be fair,
objective and accurate. However......some people here think that Fox should be part of the Bush/Cheney re-election team. I think that fair and balanced is good. I think that is exactly what the American people want in a news channel. Funny thing though......those who are angry at FOX are the same people who are angry with CNN, ABC, CBS, NBC, etc, BECAUSE they aren't fair and balanced. It seems to me that you can't have it both ways...........

I think that fair and balanced is good.

I agree. However, sometimes I feel whoever the host is, let's the left get away with way too much, without leaving the piece actually balanced.

That said, FOX is the only TV news I watch on a regular basis.

Occasionally I flip to another channel to see the end of a news conference I'm interested in that FOX cut off.

"FOX hired the head of NBC as the new news editor. Look for some major changes in FOX."

Would this be a case of a chicken guarding the Fox den?

It's been a hard campaign, with Democrats thinking that trashing the CIC and the war in Iraq is fair game. Now, they're having a feeding frenzy about some misbegotten soldiers who don't represent the whole, who did reprehensible things and are being brought up on charges.

Putting this as the lead-in to what was supposed to be a tribute to the troops, to put our war dead in context, on top of deep feelings about our service dead for personal reasons, broke the dam with me.

You may be made of sterner stuff...but then grief is whimsical about when it hits you. Your turn may come.

George: However......some people here think that Fox should be part of the Bush/Cheney re-election.

Come on George. We don't think that at all.

FOX carried live a considerable portion (about an hour, maybe more) of the White House Press Core pounding Scott McClellan with redundant questions about Bush's National Guard service.

Seems to me that covering a good portion of the Vets' press conference would have been fair and balanced - especially considering it was a relatively "slow" news day.
