I had a creepy feeling when the scandal first broke it would be sadistic cops and screws at the heart of it. Militarization of policing in the U.S. has taken us to this event. I firmly believe cops should be kept as far away as possible from the trappings of militarism. They should wear blue uniforms with ties, peaked caps, and shiny buttons. The should carry revolvers, not M16s. A EFFING MEN.
There are good cops. But sadly, it seems like most police departments are made up by wannabe Rambos and guys who didn't do well enough on the SATs to make it into a state college. Often one and the same . . .

When this broke, I immediately thought of Milgram and also of the Stanford Prison Experiment.

"The young soldier's family said she's always had a fascination with stomach-churning photography. Growing up, her homicide detective dad and forensic science buff mom constantly shared with their daughter grisly crime-scene photos.
"She has been looking at autopsies and crime-scene pictures since she was a kid," Robin Harmon told the paper.
She said her daughter claims she took the photos at Abu Ghraib as evidence of the atrocities being committed there. "They're passing the buck, putting it all on the little kids," she said....
Ha!!! Putting it on the little kids!!! I wonder if Harmon's orders including having to grin in the pictures, cause she sure looked like she was enjoying those photo sessions.
-Libs don't want to believe a woman could be responsible responsible for abuse. They don't want Brig Gen. Karpinski to have any responsibilty either. Nope, gotta be a man responsible....

"Her PARENTS showed her crime scene hotos when she was a Little girl growing up....They are GHOULS also! GHOULS...GHOULS....GHOULS."
Okay!. . .'ghouls; ghouls. . .ghouls'. I can accept that.
. . .if all true, for this family; 'foolish is ghoulish'. . .
But do think they are most likely foolish, ghoulish Liberals - for starters. ;^)

When this broke, I immediately thought of Milgram and also of the Stanford Prison Experiment. While that illustrates the potential for cruelty, I don't think it explains why all or almost all of the seven people at the center of the scandal are reservists with domestic LEA backgrounds. This problem exists right here in the U.S. police forces and prisons.

Thanks for the kind remarks. The private contractor story is an interesting one.
It has parallels to Rome, as I pointed out.
It has parallels to modern business practices where busineses outsource whenever it is cheaper or more efficient to do so, or in some cases when there is no choice.
It just stands to reason that freelancers or contractors will exhibit less discipline than uniformed military personnel and this incident was nothing if not about breakdown of discipline.
We have now heard about contractors in various and sundry settings and in various capacities.
Just like outsourcing, there are always tradeoffs just as Imperial Rome found out.

She said her daughter claims she took the photos at Abu Ghraib as evidence of the atrocities being committed there. Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight.
Then she photographs a corpse, poses for a picture with it, jumps on a pile of prisoners, writes "rapeist" on a detainee's leg, and attaches wires to a prisoner's hands before telling him he'll be electrocuted if he falls off a box.

"She just moved out [of the house] two years ago," Robin said. "She has no clue what people are really like. She thinks everyone is good."
THERE IS NO ONE WHO HAS SPENT TIME WITH CRIME SCENE PHOTOS WHO THINKS EVERYONE IS GOOD.

You know what she Is a sick little SOB and If I could hold of this one I would love to do worse I'm all for the U.S being over there but I hope some Muslim's get ahold of her ass and go to Jihad town that will give her a dose of her own medicine. All these pictures of these's reservist with there grin's and laughing I'd beat the smack out of all there whining complaining asses "OH i didn't think I'd have to go to war if I was in the army RESERVES!"
To: abyss101
Frankly I don't give a shit about
abu ghrab except for the idiot laxitry of the military allowing photos in a prison. The prisoners were humiliated, not tortured murdered beheaded or fed into a wood chipper. I'll see their Jihad and raise a Crusade. Only OUR restraint keeps us from transforming this clash of cultures waged by the muslims into a decimation. Or worse.
They can hurt us. We can utterly and totally destroy their entire "civilization". See history of Carthage for evidence.

I remember reading this last May. Why am I not surprised that it got no national media attention?
