Jewish agency official detained in New Zealand ["Israelis are a nation of spies and drug dealers"]

"Israelis are a nation of spies and drug dealers", according to New Zealand immigration officials speaking to the Jewish Agency treasurer Shai Hermesh upon his arrival there, reported Army Radio Saturday.

Hermesh and his assistant were detained and searched by airport officials for 3 hours after their arrival in Auckland in spite of the fact that Hermesh presented a diplomatic passport.

The immigration officer at the airport explained his actions saying the two raised suspicion due to their arrival from a terror-inflicted country and last month's arrest of two Israelis suspected of being Mossad operatives.

Considering the state of NZ's self-defence capability (just below Tibet's, with the exception of a bit of blue water between them and China) they probably should be just a bit more circumspect when dealing with nations that take security seriously.

Well this reporting is slightly less than the truth. They weren’t arrested for being Mossad agents, they were arrested for trying to obtain NZ passports illegally.

NZ's self-defence capability ultimately includes all of Her Majesty's Navy and Air Force,including Britain and Australia,which outmuscles any conventional threat in the region.This news article is sensationalist and misleading BTW.

New Zealand has done the same thing to its armed forces as Canada (where I live) has done: Gutted, underfunded and overextended them.

I stand by what I said. Depending on others for your safety is foolish false economy, especially when England's navy is nothing like it once was, and Australia has its hands full looking after its OWN interests.
