Cuban-American Alliance Education Fund Condemns US President George W. Bush's Anti-Cuba measures
Washington, May 8 (RHC)-- The Cuban-American Alliance Education Fund, based in Washington, offered a press conference on Friday -- condemning US President George W. Bush's cruel measures against Cuba.
During the press conference, the Cuban-American solidarity group said that the Bush administration is attempting to get the financial and political support of the right wing sector in South Florida for the November presidential elections.
While Cuba eases travel to the island of Cuban nationals living abroad, the White House -- which attempts to show the world they support family values -- imposes draconian measures that further divide the Cuban family.
The Cuban-American Alliance Education Fund requests the support of the American people and Congress in condemning President Bush's anti-Cuba measures and ease restrictions aimed at uniting the Cuban family.
Washington's Anti-Cuba Policy is Worst Possible Gift for Mother's Day
Havana, May 8 (RHC)-- Cuban journalists on the island say that Washington's recent measures against the island are the worst possible gift for Mother's Day. The statement was made during Friday night's roundtable discussion -- aired live on Cuban radio and television.
Panelists on the roundtable pointed out that the over 450 pages elaborated by the Bush administration say that from now on, Cubans living in the United States will only be able to visit their relatives on the island once every three years, will be restricted even more in sending remittances and will be limited to sending packages only to immediate relatives.
Cuban journalist and editor of Tricontinental magazine, Arleen Rodríguez, said that this announcement reminds her of the McCarthy era due to its fascist character. She added that this is the most cynical gift for the Cuban family prior to Mother's Day.
Lazaro Barredo, a journalist with the Cuban weekly newspaper Trabajadores, pointed out during Friday's televised roundtable that the most dangerous of the anti-Cuba measures is the use of C-130 planes to send the transmissions of Radio and TV Martí. He stressed that this means that US military planes will be flying dangerously near the island during a very tense moment in bilateral relations.
Referring to the illegal broadcasts, Barredo said that this is not only a violation of the International Telecommunications Union and will affect Cuban radio and television frequencies, but also puts the island's national security in danger.
Friday's roundup concluded with journalists asking: where does all that money come from while the United States is facing such a tremendous deficit? Reinaldo Taladrid, a journalist with Cuban television, said that the money will probably come from American taxpayers and budget cuts in the country's social programs.
Perhaps a little perspective is in order. How often are Cubans living in Cuber allowed to visit their relatives in the Great Satan....errr...I mean the U.S.?
Now I'm all confused... Where's Fidel Marx to straighten me out. I can't keep my dialectics straight. Don't DO this to me!!!
