Statement by Sen. Zell Miller addressing John Kerry's remarks to the DLC

Sen. Zell Miller (D-GA) issued the following statement addressing John Kerry's remarks to the Democratic Leadership Council (DLC):
"From statehouses to Congress, John Kerry's fellow Democrats are refusing to campaign with him. It's no surprise that Democrats are running away from their party's first nominee since Walter Mondale to campaign on a platform of raising taxes. Regardless of what Kerry tells the DLC, the reality is that he has proposed at least $1.9 trillion in new government spending. Kerry's spending can only be paid for with higher taxes on all Americans and would derail the economic recovery sparked by President Bush's pro-growth policies. Today we have seen the positive results of those policies, with 288,000 new jobs created in April and 1.1 million new jobs since last August.
"John Kerry is at odds with the DLC when he condemns the President for liberating Iraq. The DLC supported sending our troops essential items like body armor, but John Kerry voted no--a decision Kerry had previously said would be 'irresponsible.'
"From John Kerry's support for partial birth abortion to his opposition to the rights of gun owners, Democrats across the country are realizing that John Kerry's extreme positions are totally out of touch with mainstream American values. Even the non-partisan National Journal ranked Kerry the Senate's most liberal member--more liberal than his fellow Massachusetts Senator Ted Kennedy."

Maybe Bush should reach out to the Democratic Party and adopt Sen. Miller for a high-level position.
Senator Miller is a Democrat who's in the mainstream (of the Republican party).

Well, if Powell cuts and runs after the elections, then maybe Rice moves to State and Zell can have her job. Heck, he likes guns, so he would be good on blasting someone's butt for attacking us.

The downside of this is an opening at the convention for Hillarity. I'd rather the DLC back off and let Kerry spontaneously combust in September.

Me thinks Mr. Miller can take care of himself. The natives better back up off of Mr. Miller, lest he break open a Georgia supersized can of whupa$$.

Do you suppose the DNC and RNC could get together and work out some kind of deal to swap senators? Kind of like professional baseball. Maybe we could trade them Spector for Miller.

That is the big problem.
For Kerry to self-destruct this early could be a problem.

He's probably more effective staying a democrat. Phil Gramm switched parties and they almost turned him into a Newt (not a slam on Newt). I wish Zell was not retiring from office. He is a good man.

Dear Army,
Senator Miller is an old conservative SOUTHERN Democrat, the like of which are seldom seen anymore. Until sometime around 1990 I could always find one or two dims I could vote for on my local ballot ....... no longer.

No. He was Governor of Georgia (I beleive) at the time of the impeachment trial. He took over when Senator Paul Coverdale (R) died of a stroke in 2000.

He's more effective as a Democrat.
If he was Republican do you think anyone would care what he said?
To: RetiredArmy
There was a time when most democrats were like Zell Miller. They voted for guys like Kennedy and Scoop Jackson and Harry Truman. Freepers could find many things to disagree with these dems about, but one and all they were patriots
Maybe a guy like Zell Miller could resurrect that wing of the party, but I think it's too far gone for that. My Democratic Party no longer exists. The party now worships at the altar of sexual politics where abortion is a secular sacrament and homosexual marriage is exalted. It's a party that celebrates victimhood and entitlement. You're right Zell should become a Republican and maybe Ed Koch too.
