Federal agents on Thursday detained a Washington County lawyer in connection with the deadly March 11 terrorist attack in Madrid -- the first American connection to the worst terrorist attack since Sept. 11, 2001.
Brandon Mayfield, 37, who lives in Aloha and played a minor legal role in the Portland Seven terrorism case, was picked up at his West Slope law office on a material witness hold Thursday morning, said Tom Nelson, Mayfield's attorney.

"I wonder what this guy did in the Army."
You are not by yourself.
Did he meet his wife while in the Army and bring her to America?
Hopefully the Oregonian before it goes PC on this case will investigate this aspect of this POS!

Okay...the attorney is a former army officer. Who knows how to bring up some kind of record on him? Was he in the same time as the sniper? I think he's about the same age as the sniper.

The "family practice lawyer" headline really says it all: The Oregonian makes it sound like he was practicing the craft of an old-time country doctor! I have never heard the term before -- ever.

If it doesn't belong, I hope it will be removed. Thanks for suggesting putting the text here.
To: Sacajaweau
Actually, I more concerned about if he had explosive training and what level of security clearances he had.
Then the possible sniper connections could be very important.

My guess is that things he sold at the Mosque swap meet ended up in the hands of terrorists.

I have this gut feeling that these guys are tied into the prisoner abuse situation and in particuliar another one who had over $100,000 on him while he was Iraq. He was busted while over there and the money was taken.

We use the term here in NY. Divorces, wills, house closings, etc.. and probably DWI and minor criminal.
No Corporation, Trial (major criminal) etc..

the first American connection to the worst terrorist attack since Sept. 11, 2001. How many people were killed in the nightclub bombing in Bali?
To: Sacajaweau
I stand corrected. It was news to me. I had heard of "family law" but not "family practice law."

Hello, I am on your side, and the side of justice. Below is my comments yesterday regarding that porn pictures of the Iraqi prisoners with a lesbian looking bitch laughing at them. My comments, as usual caused lots of hate response from fellow Christians, and closed minded Republican fanatics.
How can this country talks about "winning the hearts and the minds" of the Iraqi people, and be faced with this humiliating pictures, and no one calls for heads to roll. I expected people on our side, the Republican side to be more upset with this pictures as they destroyed all the good deed that we have done for the Iraqis, and allowed a field day for the Arabic media to rightfully, I might add, dump on us.
Idiots like you who think that you are going to puke just because Rumsfeld is going to apologize are simply inhumane! I am not saying that Rumsfeld has personally ordered the humiliation of the prisoners and he deserves punishment. I am simply saying no one is ordering Rumsfeld to strip naked and be dragged by a leash, simply apology does not cost him anything, and it goes a long way of soothing the anger that we are paying 200 billion dollars to reform.
One of the guys who was stripped naked, and forced on a pile of naked guys, while a lesbo American soldier is laughing was interviewed, and his crime to deserve such treatment was that he was a passenger in a car that was stopped at a check point and found that it was stolen. The guy simply accepted a ride from another guy who may or may not have a stolen car. For that, he was to strip naked and be humiliated in front of a laughing lesbian bitch. The guy is still saying that he was glad that the US liberated his country from Saddam, but in the same time, he said that when Saddam put him in prison a few years before, he was not humiliated that much by his goons. Jesus said by the same measuring cup that you give it would be given back to you. We were not happy when our soldiers were burned and hanged by barbarians, and the rest of the world was also unhappy. Now, we should have the integrity, as our President is showing humility, and sorrow for the barbaric behaviors of a very small number of our military. Thank Clinton for inviting dont ask dont tell; it brought lots of lesbians low life type to the military.

I looked up the sniper's service specialties last night: Metalworker, combat engineer, water transport specialist. However, I can't define them and I'm sure they are broad, but some army dude could define the possibilities and hopefully, someone will show up here.

If the suspect has never traveled to Madrid, how did his fingerprints end up in the bomb equipment? Were some bomb parts shipped from Oregon?
Reading about this guy is upsettling.

Nelson described Mayfield as a "very" moderate Muslim, like himself, who worships occasionally at the Bilal Mosque in Beaverton. He said Mayfield is not devout. Funny how even "very moderate" Muslims stick together.
To: aposiopetic
Investigators think the terrorists who carried out the bombings were members of an autonomous cell who might have had ties with fundamentalists elsewhere but got their financing chiefly from drug profits. Duh. If they were dealing large amunts of drugs (heroin?) then they had ties with the Islamic terrorists known as the KLA (of Kosovo). This is written as if drug profits and ties with Islamist fundies elsewhere are separate issues.
