So just to be clear in my mind:
If we find the story on the web by googling, and use the "cache" link on google, for example, that's ok?

Only Titles??

Seems to me that publishing a link under these circumstances is doing them a favor which they don't deserve. I'm inclined to agree with ACP here. Why send them traffic if they think they're "too good" to be excerpted on FR? Just make a wholesale embargo on those domains.

And how does google itself get around this?
Is no one allowed to quote their stupid articles? I'm really getting miffed at this nonsense. Aw, the he!! with 'em all.
To: Jim Robinson
This is getting ridiculous!
What are they afraid of?
To: Prime Choice
Embargo 'em all.
You got it.

No more Mountville Clipper? Say it ain't so, Jim. Say it ain't so.

In this case, can we post a link to the DUmmies after they excerpt it? (just kidding)

Seems like a legitimate question to me.
What the heck is the internet supposed to be, anyway?
I thought it was all about linking?
Silly me, that only applies in special circumstances.
Not here of course.

It's not like you've got a ton of choices up there...what are you going to read, Bozeman Chronicle?

I'm pretty sure that short excerpts would be covered under Fair Use. In any case, if you see a story you want to post, go to news.google.com and see if another site has the same story. If you see another site linking to one of these papers, point out that they don't allow excerpts. That might cause fewer people to link to these papers. Send fewer hits there way and they'll probably change their policies.
To: Jim Robinson
No excerpting? How about paraphrasing (with accreditation). Certainly it is nothing that other media sites aren't already doing.
Fair use provisions of the US Constitution mean nothing to the left. Remember this the next time someone brings up the "First Ammendment".

I'd say forward any and all leftist excerpts to the legal staff at those websites. Since newbies are not permitted to post at DUh, the articles posted there are from genuine RedDUpes.

Maybe we should all call any of these local papers and tell them we are either canceling our subscription or boycotting their advertisers if they don't allow posting of an excerpt. I KNOW that would wake up some local business people who advertise with these pukes. You could call me but I have already pulled all my advertising from all papers. I now use direct advertising. It works better anyway.

Call their advertisers. That WILL work. They are already having trouble getting people to advertise with them once they figure out that direct advertising is a better and less expensive way to do it. I pulled all of mine from all newspapers when they started trashing President Bush in the last election. And don't forget to tell them why. Business people do care about their customers. Newspapers never really did until they started getting calls to cancel advertising. They always thought that people couldn't get their news from anywhere else so screw you. BIG FAT DO YOU WANT TO BET?!
