I got a call from comedian-activist-liberal icon-radio guy Al Franken on Monday. It was regarding a column I'd written dissing his new radio network, Air America ("Air America circles endlessly, but always to the left," Opinions Sunday). I'd say he was just this side of mad.

he explained that Walsh was staying on as a "senior adviser to the network," thus only one of them was in fact "quitting." This sort of hair-splitting is the very definition of fact-spinning.
Whatever duty Walsh performs as a senior adviser, he is not in charge anymore. Presumably, he stepped down as CEO for a reason.

What's up with all the "aren't I smart" eyewear? Is myopia a job requirement?
Oops, considering their politics, it must be.

I thank Mr. Franken for bringing this to my attention. If only he had quit when he was ahead.

He couldn't do that unless he had a BRAIN!

All liberals strive for the unachievable "savvy" New Yorker, who chuckles at "New Yorker" cartoons and sips 12 dollar-a-cup cappuccinos.

"All liberals strive for the unachievable "savvy" New Yorker, who chuckles at "New Yorker" cartoons and sips 12 dollar-a-cup cappuccinos."

And unfortunately for them, that also describes the entire pool of people who might enjoy listening to their radio show. That is, if they weren't too busy already, listening to themselves talk. "I'm so smart. Just listen to me. Can I talk intellectual, or what?"

And from the Chicago Trib...
In yet another sign of trouble for Air America Radio, the liberal talk network entering its fifth chaotic week on the air, co-founder and chairman Evan Cohen resigned Thursday, as did vice-chairman and investor Rex Sorensen.
But Franken didn't lose executives, he gained "advisors."

Along with Ari Fleischer, token neocon.

Ask Al how many paying advertisers he's drawn. Not PSAs, Ad Council gimmes, or station promos. Paying ads.

Then you'll hear some spin.

The quote in my post about "all liberals" was a quote from another response. I was only repeating it, and in quotes.

However, I do believe that there is a liberal elite, many of them in New York, who look down their nose at the rest of us. Many of them are in the news media or in entertainment. Many of them are "smart" in the sense that they are well-read, and have at their command a lot of trivia. Al Franken winning at Jeopardy does not surprise me.

My impression of that bunch is that they are "useful idiots" for every anti-American idea that comes down the pike. Communism. Islam. Radical environmentalism. One world government. You name it, they are there. So, how smart, really, are people who are so quick to saw off the limb that is supporting them?

As for having a productive conversation with them, have at it. If I know where this conversation takes place, I would like to listen.

I do agree with your point that not all liberals fit into this mold. There are many reasons that people have for their political views. Being an accepted member of the social and intellectual elite is one that is open to only a select few.
