Freepers within driving distance of Santa Clarita, CA:
You are invited to take part in "Dave's March for Justice", taking place Saturday morning, May 8th, at the College of the Canyons in Santa Clarita (L.A. County). The event will begin with a 9AM march from the south parking lot to the stadium, where a rally will be held at 10AM to noon.
On April 29, 2002, just over two years ago, Los Angeles County Sheriff's Deputy David March pulled over a Mexican national named Armando Garcia, a twice-deported illegal alien who had convictions on his record for meth dealing, and who had also two current arrest warrants on him for attempted murder. Garcia knew that if he allowed himself to be arrested, he'd be going back to jail, or face deportation.
Instead of that, Garcia produced a handgun and shot Deputy March. He then exited his car, walked up to March, lying on the ground, and shot him again to ensure he was dead. Garcia then made his way to Interstate 5 and didn't stop until he had passed south into Mexico.
Mexico has had a policy of not extraditing suspects who face the death penalty. But in late 2002, the Mexican Supreme Court ruled that the potential of facing life in prison without the possibility of parole is also cruel and unusual, as we Americans understand it. Thus, Mexico would not extradite Armando Garcia unless it was guaranteed a lesser sentence.
Los Angeles County District Attorney Steve Cooley has refused thus far to make any such guarantee. Cooley has also not yet formally sought extradition, because to do so, with Mexico's subsequent denial, would trigger an "Article 4" judicial procedure. This would enable Mexico to try Garcia in Mexico for crimes committed in the U.S. Under this "trial", there would be no guarantee of evidence being presented, and no guarantee of witnessing being called. From what is known of prior Article 40s, Garcia, upon conviction, could receive little more than a slap on the wrist, at most 10 years in prison. He would then, under the U.S./Mexico Extradition Treaty, have "double jeopardy" protection, he could return to the U.S. and be immune from any arrest or prosecution in regards to Deputy March's murder.
And so, right now things stand at a roadblock. DA Cooley refuses thus far to settle for less than LWOP (life without parole) or death and will not formally seek extradition, Mexico will not budge in its insistence to seek out less than just punishment for a cop killer.
Members of the March family and others have, for two years, fought to bring public attention to this, tried to persuade elected officials in the U.S. and Mexico to renegotiate this treaty, and tried to shame the politicians into doing something and not tolerating this intolerable situation. So far, talk has been plentiful, action has been scarce.
David's widow Teri, parents John and Barbara will be present at this event, along with Sheriff Lee Baca, Supervisor Mike Antonovich, Congressmen Buck McKeon and over 30 other Members of Congress, LAPD Chief William Bratton, Assemblyman Keith Richman and other state legislators, and many many others will be present.
I hope you will be as well.

All illegal aliens should be deported and our troops used ot protect our borders. The biggest threat to this country come from the enemy (along with hordes of criminals) infiltrating this country.

This sounds like a case where it would be justified putting a bounty on Garcia, payable if he is delivered to US soil. My understanding is that as long as an accused criminal is legally arrested in the US, our courts don't care how he came to be here.
Risky, as the Mexicans would probably consider it kidnapping.

Exactly. We have the means, but we do not have the will to secure our borders from not only economic refugees from Mexico and others third world countries, but from their criminals like Armando Garcia, and others that would seek to sneak in and do us harm.
We have too many gutless politicans, from the city halls to the White House.

I think it would be like that dude that "Dog" Chapman went to Mexico to nab. Some Max Factor heir or something.
Mexico would probably be upset that we took it upon ourselves to seek justice rather than play their stupid game and bribe them with cash or illegal alien amnesty.

Well, for one the College is in the Marchs' hometown, and they have room to accomodate all the people they anticipate.
And if we marched on the Mexican Consulate, the L.A. Times headline the next day would scream about racist, angry, white people marching on the poor, defenseless Mexicans and frightening them.

Terrible :(
Here in SF a person shot and killed a police officer and our "lovely" DA Kamala Harris doesn't believe in the death penalty and won't seek it.
It's controversial here, but mostly, of course the liberals hate the police and think her decision is "fine".
Lovely limo liberals.

Figures.
I heard about this skunk Kamala, and I'm not surprised, but I thought even a city like SF would rise up in anger over the killing of a cop.
Silly me for thinking that. In Berkeley they'd probably give the murderer a medal...

To: StoneColdGOP
And why isn't anybody asking why our illustrious leaders are not getting tough with Mexico and Fox over our extradition treaties?!??!
Oh, wait. I keep forgetting. If they have an 'R' next to their name, they are "doing all they can do" in addition to never doing anything wrong.
To: StoneColdGOP
I certainly wish I could attend. I've been following this story on KFI and have written to demand something, anything, be done to protect our police and citizens from these killers. It's disgusting and horribly frightening to think illegal aliens from Mexico are better off killing American citizens than not.
I have obligations elsewhere on Saturday but will be there with y'all in spirit.

And they'd label you a "traitorious self-hating Hispanic". ;-) I supported 187. I am evil incarnate to these people.

If they have an 'R' next to their name, they are "doing all they can do" in addition to never doing anything wrong. With the exception of the guys who will be there Saturday, they simply don't understand the problem. or they are too afraid of offending people who won't vote for them anyway.
