that is true, Savage will be off the deep end tonight.
To: KJacob
I am guessing this to mean that he is sorry it happened not that he is sorry as a responsible person. In the same way I am sorry if my wife has a bad day at work. I am sorry it happened not feeling responsible. At least someone gets it. Some people don't realize that "sorry" can have multiple meanings. One can be sorry something happened but not sorry as in taking blame.

that is true, Savage will be off the deep end tonight Savage will be following the lead of a small few on FR and that will inflate his already inflated ego, which will burst some day.

Monty22 and faithincowboys, each of you has posted vanities saying that the President is finished. Here you are on this thread, as well as a couple of others, painting the worst case scenario on yet another story.
What am I to think about you two? Please post a link to positive articles you have posted. I find it amazing that both of you are doing this. By the way, has arthurus shown up on this thread yet?

"He has to go. Nothing, I think, less will suffice," Harkin told CNN. "It's not enough just for Secretary Rumsfeld to say that some people in the lower ranks are responsible for this -- this goes all the way up." What a twit! The only way Rumsfeld is RESPONSIBLE for it is if he ordered that the prisoners be treated that way. Since he didn't, he isn't responsible for the abuse, only the follow-up once it was discovered. However, he certainly SHOULD have let the President know about the investigation before the pictures were released so he wouldn't be caught flat-footed about it! I believe The President called Rumsfeld 'on the carpet', literally, in the Oval Office about it earlier this week.

I haven't read all the posts on this thread yet.
However, I am compelled to stick up for the President. I am totally shocked and dismayed at Rush. Sometimes Rush can be wrong!
I watched the press conference. It was also carried by at least ABC and FOX Network.
The President didn't fall on a sword and take blame he simply said a heartfelt "sorry for abuses and humiliation". Just as he told the young girl he hugged after hearing she lost her mother he said I am sorry for your pain.
If Rush has a problem with that well then I have a problem with Rush.
as per Neal Boortz:
A lot of people are wondering why we should apologize for what happened to those Iraqi prisoners while the Arab world doesn't apologize for what happened on 9/11. Listen today ... I'll tell you.
OK .. NOW I'LL ANSWER THAT QUESTION
So, why should we apologize for the actions of our troops in Iraq in light of the fact that we still haven't heard any apologies from the Arab world for the events of 9/11, or for the treatment of those four civilian contractors murdered and desecrated in Fallujah? That's easy. We're not them. We hold the moral high ground here. If we accept our ownership of the moral high ground, we must accept the standard of conduct that comes with it, including apologizing for our actions when such an apology is appropriate.
We are trying to convince the Iraqi people that America has something more to offer them than did Saddam Hussein. Yes, Saddam really did torture his people. It wasn't just humiliating pictures, it was actual rape rooms, electric shock devices, mass murders and other brutalities. Iraqis got no apologies from Saddam. Now is the time to show them that our way is better. When you see that your people have done something wrong you punish them, and you apologize to their victims. How can this message not resonate with a people who have been brutalized, without apology, for so many decades.
As for that prison? Make a big show of leveling it. Destroy it. Replace it with a memorial to those who were abused and murdered by Saddam Hussein on that site.

Did any ever consider if the president wanted to apolgize to the Iraqis he would have done so yesterday in his interview with AL Arabiya Television and Alhurra Television that was broadcast directly to Iraq?

"FIC," Howlin has been around here a long time and is, at least in my opinion, one of the most valued FReepers around. I took offense at your characterization, also, and responded before I saw the interchange between you and Howlin. You're entitled to your opinion; others are entitled to respond. That's the way a forum like this works. Nothing I've seen in Howlin's response to you is out of bounds. Certainly nothing that deserved your rather snide comment, "You deal with people in real one dimensional ways. It's not healthy."

"The war will be lost or won in America. "
The United States of America is the only superpower left. A hyperpower. In my mind, the leading beacon of liberty on the planet. Whether you like or not, you are the top dog, the only nation capable of leading this global effort.
Are you going to take on that responsibility like Bush has done and lead the world to victory?
Or will people like Howard Dean and Patric Buchanan win the day, and retreat? This will be decided in America,
hence: The war will be lost or won in America
To: SuziQ
well, given that the pics were "leaked", does that change things. This is an attack on Rummy just as there are attacks on Condi and Cheney. They want to destroy Bush's team and therefore destroy Bush. That is the gameplan and if they hurt us and the war and our soldiers in the process,,they just don't care.

OK.......let's do.
First of all, let me presume that you have read what he actually said, and realize that he accepted NO culpability in these events. Can I do that?
If I am the CEO of a company, am I more 'responsible' for a crime committed within the company, than a random crime in the neighborhood near by? Am I more responsible to get to the bottom of it, make sure that justice is done, and root out the problem?
Of course, I am.
He is not 'culpable' for what these few soldiers did, but as CinC, it is under his purview to let people know that it is being dealt with, and, yes....even to say that he is sorry that it happened.
That is what he said to the Arab world, and that is what he is doing.

If President got on the ball with illegal immigration, he might stand a chance of sweeping the southwest and California. I think that might even get the non-voters out of their easy chairs and into the voting booth. It would also help if the California courts would butt out. Overturning 187, duly approved by the population, did not help matters out there.

"Why does anybody CARE what Rush thinks?"
Some forks here on FR take Rush at is word. They believe him when he says, "I was born to talk, you were born to listen," and "I'll tell you what to think about it."
Some folks here on FR probably think Rush should be President.
Rush is a boob.

"A point that seems to be missed by the 'Bush is a coward because he used the word sorry' gang around here."
Maybe some believe in a non existant Presidentopia.
I appreciate what we do have right now knowing the expectation of perfection in any leader is a pipe dream.
And I agree an apology is in order and could save lives, and hurt terrorist recruitment.
