He has done the right thing by letting the Military justice system take its course. He has done the right thing by sticking by Rummy in the face of withering attacks from all sides.

But he will get NO credit for this statement today. This will only increase the fire coming from the left (and right it seems). One side will say he didn't "apologize strongly enough". The other side will say "He shouldn't have apologized for anything".

If the admins decide I need a break I will accept it.

Some people argue for their point of view. I argue for another. I assume both are sincere. And, that's ok.

I have no contempt for anyone (please don't put those intetions on my account), but I think there is too much hysteria.

I have spent several years hear, and has (with two exceptions) had only constructive, respectful discussions.

We talked before. I respect your views, but I happen to think the Kerry statement is accurate. Is that contempt. No. In fact, the one redeming quality about Kerry is that he has made it clear that the Iraq project will be seen through, and that the UN will NOT command US troops.

You might disagree as is your right.

Cheers.

I've had to tune Rush out the past two days. He's sharp but we didn't elect Rush. We elected Bush.

Have you seen how upset some of the families (and lawyers) of the soldiers involved are by what they deem as excessive demonization of the soldiers? They are saying that W is out of touch with what soldiers go through in combat.

I think that is a troubling development!

I think the Left is trying to get Bush to appear to not be sufficiently backing up the troops. They know that will cause Bush trouble with his base.

To have the President apologize, does not mean that he accepts responsibility for anything. The act of saying you are sorry can be viewed in different circumstances. If you drop a rock on your wifes toe, then you would say I am sorry, to tell her you didn't mean to do that. You could also be sorry to see all the bickering on this thread. It doesn't mean you did anything,it just implies certain actions are upsetting to see.
I don't view the Presidents apology as a big issue,he has important matters to attend to and want to put the harping of the sorry media behind him.

If President got on the ball with illegal immigration, he might stand a chance of sweeping the southwest and California. I think that might even get the non-voters out of their easy chairs and into the voting booth.
You can maintain your values if you stay true to them in each section of the country where a political issue is has priority without be seen as changing message for the sake of vote appeal.
America is becoming Balkanized simply by it's size, although National Security is enough of an encompassing issue to focus point by point in each section.

Howlin, who are you really?

You deal with people in real one dimensional ways. It's not healthy.

no, he is right to upbraid Rummy on this...this investigation has been going on for months, and the Prez was blind-sided by these pics. He let Rummy know that he let him down. I'm sure Rummy knows this, and has probably offered W his resignation. And I am sure W has rejected it...now they are both ready to move on. Also, W needs to get Rummy, Rice, and Powell together and tell them to get a rein on their staff...he doesn't want to read anymore infighting crap in the newspapers...we're at war, dammit.

You, sir, are a voice of reason in a sea of writhing emotions. Great post!

You don't need a break, you aren't being that insulting.

But there are a few on here that are slandering fellow freepers without end, and obviously without fear of any consequences from the admins.

"I agree Howlin. If our soldiers really did this terrible disservice to humanity, then we should be very sorry. It makes no difference if there are others who have done worse things, and to us."

I agree completely. Both yesterday and today, GW demonstrated the depth of his character. He also explicitly stated his abiding belief that the American military is an honorable organization, which was sadly tainted by the actions of a few, and in doing so may have helped to save some lives.

And I'm listening to it on the radio right now--he is "sorry for the humiliation they suffered." I really dont' see anything weak or wrong with that.

bingo. And since the kooks on both sides of the fence are yelling about it, President Bush obviously did the right thing.
