Has President Bush ever personally apologised for anything?
Yahoo/Canadian Press ^

White House spokesman Scott McClellan said later: "The president is sorry for what occurred and the pain it has caused."

Asked why Bush had not apologized, McClellan said: "I'm saying it now for him."

Bush's national security adviser, Condoleezza Rice said Tuesday: "We are deeply sorry for what has happened," while the commander of U.S.-run prisons in Iraq, Maj.-Gen. Geoffrey Miller, apologized Wednesday for "illegal or unauthorized acts" of American soldiers.

Has Mr. Bush, as President, ever said sorry himself, or has he always had his employees do it for him? Did the same thing happen when he was Governor of Texas?

It's not a sign of weakness; it's admitting you're human. Having other people apologise for you is, however, a sign of immaturity. That George Washington story about the cherry tree is taught to everyone (even here in the UK) for a purpose: to tell children that honest people admit their own mistakes.

Yes he has. But unlike Clinton, Kerry, and that other crew he doesn't do it just to get on TV.

I personally don't believe you can apologize for something you didn't do. I think what he can do is say he objects to what happened to the prisoners and punish the ones responsible. He's done both of those things.

President Bush is smart enough to know that all of these demands for an apology are just to get him to say it on record so it can be used against him in political ads and media smear stories.

Excuse me....what DID the President DO? Did he take the pictures? Did he make the prisoners stand there naked? Get a grip...but, then, you are in the UK....you might want to study foreign relations a little, also.....sheesh.

Probably because he remembers what happened to his father for his 'tax apology'

The lefties desperately want the President to admit he was wrong about something and apologize for it - if he were foolish enough to do so, that sound bite would form the core of John Kerry's campaign against him.

Also, in many parts of the world (including a lot where American troops are) apologizing is seen as a sign of weakness. America can not afford this. Not now.

And apologizing for something for which you were not personally responsible is a sign of idiocy and a distinguishing characteristic of political correctness.

A person should apologize for something they are ACTUALLY responsible for....Unlike Clinton who apologized for ME and YOU for slavery....unlike Richard Clarke who apologized for OUR government when it was HIS own and Gorelicks fault.

He didn't do anything wrong.

Now, when he leaves office in 2008, then he can apologize to us conservatives that he didn't beat up the lefty liberals more. That would be fine.

I'm sorry, I guess I'm a bit unclear here. What does he personally have to apologize for? He didn't torture those poor guys. He is almost certainly making damn sure the idiots who did, and their commanders who let it happen, are getting the hammer dropped on them. If anybody needs to apologize personally and get roasted by the press, it's those guys.
