And then: a soldier holding a leash tied around a man's neck in an Iraqi prison. He is naked, grimacing and lying on the floor.
Mixed in with more than 1,000 digital pictures obtained by The Washington Post are photographs of naked men, apparently prisoners, sprawled on top of one another while soldiers stand around them. There is another photograph of a naked man with a dark hood over his head, handcuffed to a cell door. And another of a naked man handcuffed to a bunk bed, his arms splayed so wide that his back is arched. A pair of women's underwear covers his head and face.

I've been wondering if this is representative of "softening up" of those our military are preparing to interrogate. There's no "torture" here, just a type of humiliation specially crafted for Iraqi Muslim men. It may not be as "bad" as it looks.
It is very strange and repulsive; but perhaps that necessary.

I don't know. Have to admit that I think this is truly sick and as I said on the other thread.
The Fallujah atrocities were commited by some scum islamofascists, mudhut swelling savages.
This was commited by members of the United States Military.
There is a sharp difference.
And all the pictures and videotaping? And, the media getting access to all this...
I think Bush did an excellen job today in the interviews, but it needs to be followed up by deceive action.
I trust the President to do the right thing.

" This has been under investigation since January and now WP is getting all these photo's? Something smells about this whole deal"
Somebody close to the investigation is leaking. And that is as troubling as the abuse.
" The pictures were among those seized by military investigators probing abuses at the prison."

What, no caged lions or plastic shredders? What's wrong with our soldiers? They've been in Iraq for a whole year and all they can come up with are human pyramids, and dog leashes? What's next? Forcing them to eat goldfish?
I'm being sarcastic, however whenever I see these stupid pet tricks, I remember seeing Jessica Lynch and Lori Piestewa, I remember seeing the desecrated bodies being dragged and hung in Fallujah.

CAR BOMB IN BAGHDAD JUST NOWGutless wonders, every single one of those terrorists. They should crawl out of their mosques and caves and fight their jihads, instead of hiding behind some woman's skirt. They nab unsuspecting unarmed civilian contractors, stick an AK-47 to the hostages temple, videotape it, and in a way their message says to the world "this could be you" and they get their jollies in a wad. Whether I agree with these pictures or not, the Arabs hated us before, they hate us now, and they'll hate us tomorrow and into the future. It's burned into their radical Islamofacist brains from the time they turn 5 years old and they go through life with the same thought, that we are the enemy.

"I've been wondering why anyone would want to take pictures of such behaviour."My thoughts exactly. I admit I haven't seen the pictures, but the whole thing seems fishy to me. If it's true that some of ours troops did this, then it is shameful, but I think there's more than meets the eye to this whole mess.

Not to be a pessimist, but I don't think the fanatics will be influenced one way or the other upon seeing these pictures.
Still awaiting additional photos that are out there. I am sure the Wash Post is putting these out over a very prolonged period. So far, still not overly impressed at the extent of these pranks. Although it would be interesting to put these idiots under similar conditions.
Funny, the bull-dyke looking person's mother gave a defense for her daughter's behavior: "she is just a paper-pusher"
One thing for sure, the prisons in former Iraq, in Jordan, in Egypt, in Saudi Arabia, and in Iran are much more gruesome.
You can also count on a "No Photos Permitted" sign.

I remember seeing videotape of 19 US Marines being dragged through the streets of Somalia, and the townsfolk were cheering and celebrating, and little kids swinging from the chopper blades of Blackhawk helicopters like they were monkey bars.

The people responsible are going to regret their acts of abuse by the time Rumsfeld and Pres Bush along with their Commanders get done with them.
That said, someone has leaked pictures from the investigation to the media -- that person should be found and brought to justice as well because he is tainting the investigation.

I have a few questions because I am confused about these actions.
1 Why did the soldiers let themselves be in the photos? Didn't they think they would be seen?
2. If there is a video of a soldier raping and Iraqi woman then why did he let someone videotape it?
3. I don't understand why they allowed themselves to be found out. Why take photos or videotape any of this at all?
4. I don't want to sound like the big "H", but has anyone asked these people responsible if they did these things in hopes to make Bush and our country look bad so the U.S. would pull out of Iraq?
Yes I'm talking a vast LEFT-WING conspiracy.

I think it might be. That somehow scares me even more..
I don't know, and to be honest quite shocked and disgusted at the moment.
Apparently the MI's were very satisfied with the softening up. Who knows, this might have saved lifes.
But, now it is going to costs lifes, and put the whole Iraq project in danger.
But, as many have said, the whole filming and photographing....

That means someone in the investigation is leaking -- hope they find the person. Would still like to know who took the original pictures and why.
The girl looks like a lesbian but you know this picture looks staged.

The entire planet is swamping the washingtonpost.com website as we sit - 100 percent packet loss via ping, something like five minutes after the story posted. The slashdot effect pales in comparison.
Groan. Just as Kerry was about to fizzle out forever for lack of a "message," he gets to re-fight the Vietnam Home Front war all over again. Wishful thinking aside, this isn't getting "gotten over" or forgotten anytime soon. This is getting milked throughout November. It's the Iranian hostage crisis in reverse.
