LOS ANGELES, May 5 /U.S. Newswire/ -- John Kerry and Teresa Heinz
Kerry issued the following statement today commemorating Cinco de
Mayo:
``Today, Cinco de Mayo, we join our fellow Americans and our
Mexican neighbors in commemorating this day of liberty and triumph.
The spirit that led to the victory at the Battle of Puebla lives on
today in our daily fight for equality, freedom and a brighter future
for all Americans. However, as we look back it is also important to
look forward.''
``For Mexican American families, and indeed for all American
families, there is no stronger value than building a better future for
our children. The full potential of our nation's youth can only be
realized if all children have access to quality education from an
early age. For too long, this administration has ignored the plight of
Latino youth as each year, about half of these kids drop-out of high
school. We need new leadership that will invest the resources to make
education a priority and a Kerry administration will be committed to
helping an additional one million students graduate from high
school.''
``In addition to improving the quality of our nation's educational
system, we must work together to strengthen the economy and increase
job growth, make our immigration laws fair and strengthen our
relationship with Mexico and its leaders like President Vicente Fox.''
``We encourage all Americans to celebrate Cinco de Mayo by honoring
the contributions that Mexican Americans have made and continue to
make to our nation. It is a day that reminds us to embrace our
diversity, be bold in our dreams, and know that if we work together,
we can build a stronger America.''

In commemoration, the Heinz-Kerry's gave their Mexican gardener an hour for lunch.
What an utterly stupid thing to say!
Education and the Federales should have nothing to do with each other! It must be a matter for local "families" (remember them?), school boards and non-union teachers!
AHA! So it was a reckless, unilateral foreign adventure without the approval of the United Nations. Interesting that Kerry would praise it. He was in VietNam, you know.
Does Kerry's statement even make sense? It seems to be along the line of "Today, as we celebrate the military defeat of the French, we can reflect on the fact that hispanic teens are a bunch of high school dropouts with poor health care coverage."
Most people don't know that back in 1912, Hellmann's mayonnaise was manufactured in England. In fact, the Titanic was carrying 12,000 cases of the condiment scheduled for delivery in Vera Cruz, Mexico, which was to be the next port of call for the great ship after its stop in New York. This would have been the largest single shipment of mayonnaise ever delivered to Mexico....But as we know....the great ship did not make it to New York.... The ship hit an iceberg and sank...and the cargo was forever lost.... The people of Mexico, who were crazy about mayonnaise, and were eagerly awaiting its delivery....were disconsolate at the loss.... Their anguish was so great, that they declared a National Day of Mourning which they still observe to this day....
The National Day of Mourning occurs each year on May 5th.... and is known....of course....as Sinko de Mayo....
