Canadian Bacon: Gore Launches Cable TV Network

Al Gore and lawsuit tycoon Joel Hyatt today launched their cable television network. And talk about outsourcing: Our friends in Canada - or, as Homer Simpson calls it, "America Junior" - are supplying the broadcast fodder.

The former veep and Hyatt, who co-founded Hyatt Legal Services and who more recently was finance chairman for Democratic National Committee and bungled a campaign for the U.S. Senate in Ohio, bought Newsworld International (NWI) from Vivendi Universal Entertainment for an undisclosed amount.

NWI is a 24-hour channel that airs global news produced by Canadian Broadcasting Corp. CBC will continue to supply the programming, announced Gore and Hyatt's company, INdTV Holdings.

NWI is distributed to about 17 million subscribers across the U.S. through DirecTV, Time Warner digital cable, Comcast and other cable operators, according to INdTV.

Sorry, old people: The target audience is those ages 18 to 34 (i.e., the underinformed and more easily duped). That age group, by the way, will exclude the network's own founders.

"We are launching an exciting television network for young men and women who want to know more about their world and who enjoy real-life stories created with, by and for their own generation," gushed Gore, who will be chairman of the board (bored?). "We want to empower this dynamic generation with a network dedicated to them that has integrity and a commitment to excellence.

"This will not be a political network," he insisted in a statement.

He said later at a news conference in New Orleans, "This is not going to be a liberal network, a Democratic network or a political network."

Or an American network.

Despite Gore's claims, Forbes magazine today reported things this way: "Watch out, Rupert Murdoch, there's newly-minted media mogul rising through the ranks. And he's coming from the left. ... Gore intends to start a new liberal network."

Hyatt, who will play CEO, stated, "Having learned from both the successes and failures of other cable networks, we are confident this is a winning concept."

You can bet that both Democrats are hoping they have better luck than a certain new radio flop nicknamed Airhead America.

I wasn't aware that Algore's new liberal network was on DirecTV until I saw this article. So I checked the channel guide and sure enough, there it was on Channel 366.

It's now on my list of blocked channels, along with all the CNN channels and the MTV/VH1 channels.

"This is not going to be a liberal network, a Democratic network or a political network."

It won't be a liberal network, that's for sure. I'm a Canadian and have access to this channel. If they were liberal, they'd be too close to the centre. They are way too socialist to be liberal, and if anything, I'd say they long for the return of communism.

Obviously Al has been sold a bill of goods without watching the content. I'd say they're even too far left for Gore.

"News"World is already a political network. The constant trashing of the USA that takes place on this channel will not sit well with the "swing vote." (Assuming anyone actually cares enough to watch it).

Al Gore's error

Michael Savage does it again.

If it's not funny try thinking of that Middle East "news" service.

Where is AlGore getting all this money? He was broke after the 2000 loss. Now he gives $6 mil US to Kerry and buys a cable channel? Is his trust fund manager some sort of financial genius? Oh, wait, is Geo Soros involved?
