John O’Neill, spokesman for Swift Boat Veterans for Truth, told reporters that the junior U.S. senator from Massachusetts spent 45 minutes on the phone with group founder Rear Adm. Roy Hoffman, USN (Ret.), trying to “discourage” the band of brothers from going public with their united sentiment that Kerry is unfit to be the nation’s commander in chief.

"I think the word ['atrocities'] is a bad word. I think it's an inappropriate word. The words were honest, but on the other hand they were a little bit over the top. I don't like it when I hear it today."

Atrocities: "Bad, inappropriate, honest, over the top, don't like it." Which is it again, Senator?

Parents should make their kids read about this or watch it on the news (if it makes it that far). Lesson: actions have consequences, i.e. you reap what you sow.

Thanks for posting. I have called CSPAN to inquire when the news conference would be televised. I was told that it "might" be this evening. I also emailed CSPAN to request that the news conference be televised.

We all need to keep our ears to the ground to see when the news conference is actually televised.

The efforts of these veterans must not go unnoticed.

We allowed one traitor to be elected and reelected, we cannot allow another one.

Hugely important. Kerry and the Demos. will pull out all stops to neutralize this. They will probably find some wiling Vietnam veterans to counter (but obviously not of the same stature as those making the charges) - and then seek to submerge the whole thing by overshadowing it through loudly attempting to move the focus to such events as improper prisoner-care in Iraq. It is up to us, and all other good-hearted folk, to see that this is in the news - and that it stays in the news. It can't be let up on. Kerry will try to minimize it - and then assert that it is old news and that "we need to move on." He will have a tough time getting most of the terriers off his leg.

In any political campaign, there is going to be some over the top rhetoric, but this is a solidly damaging set of quotes and assessments of Kerry from people who know him and have worked with him.

No wonder Kerry wanted to derail this.

This is sour grapes!! These guys are just mad because Kerry bugged out on them, running for safety, while they stayed to face the enemy and complete their obligation. Sure Kerry falsified the records and, to this day, tries to conceal the truth about his shame. But, these guys must realize that had Kerry not been a coward and run, he might have stayed and gotten them all killed with his grandstanding and indecision.

Some of them are probably still pis**d that someone didn't tell them about the three wounds trick or how to fake them to slip through the loophole. I for one don't think that Kerry's cowardice, indecision or deceptiveness would hurt too bad if he were elected because his current wife would be there to tell him what to do and when.

It's kick to read this -- I was sitting right next to Dave at the press conference, and kept peeking over to see what he was writing down.

This is a very thorough and fair account of what happened there.

Swift action to garner three Purple Hearts in four months of Nam duty. File for swift return to homeland duty, then discredit his fellow soldiers and reveal that he himself partook in committing war atrocities.

Veteran Robert G. Elder: “We didn’t loose the war on the ground in Vietnam, we lost it at home, and at home John Kerry was the field general.”
