Buchanan again proves he is as dim as a liberal or leftist and is in fact identical to the left in their anti-Americanism and cynicism.

Buchanan's comments are little different than what one hears in the nation or other leftist sources.

Interesting read, and pretty much correct.

"While America supported the president in going to war, we have not bought into the idea that we must democratize the Islamic world or we are unsafe in our own country. Polls show that nearly half the nation believes we should start coming home."

Well we should at least understand that Islamofascism is a political threat to western culture, values, and to our security. Erasing that political creed and its tentacles of terrorism is important for our national security, just as fighting was communist Soviet empire was.

"Second, we are running out of money. The U.S. deficit is $500 billion and rising. The merchandise trade deficit is headed toward $600 billion, putting downward pressure on a dollar that has been falling for three years. Nations with declining currencies do not create empires, they give them up."

Pat, what B*LL!! We ALL know that 80% of US Federal budget is non-military. that is right $400 billion on military and $1700 billion on the rest. If we have a deficit, it is due to domestic boondoggles, medicare and other things - NOT the fact that we are spending some small slice of our budget (and it is small, even the $80 billion was just 4% of the budget) in stabilizing Iraq.

BTW, *everything* Pat says about Iraq could be said about Afghanistan. Should we pull out there too and let AL Qaeda take it back?!?

Those who speak of democratizing Iraq as we did Germany tend to forget: in 1945, we had 12 million men under arms and four million soldiers in Europe. German resistance disappeared in 1945 with the death of Hitler. There was no guerrilla war against us.

True. Add to that heavy German war losses (and all the other losses of the war and the previous World War) and the cultural ties between Americans and Germans and you can see that Germany (or at least the part under our control) was apt to follow our model in a way that many other defeated countries wouldn't. To take 1945 as typical is a mistake.

Japan's turnaround was more remarkable, but like Germany their defeat came after a long war and we left the emperor in power. The country followed him rather than us (though having someone with McArthur's charisma didn't hurt us).

It's another of Pat's essays on the evils of the Joos ... how they tricked dumb old George Bush. Buchanan is a fascist who disguises himself as a conservative. Now that he is out of the loop, he sounds more like the Democrats. Pat, good riddence.

Pat Buchanan increasingly rides to the sound of his own gums.

To really understand Pat..one must see him in his element...on The McLaughlin Group Program.

Pat is much like the youngest boy in a family..who has chosen his sister..[In this case..Eleanor Clift]....as the solution to his inner need for total attention of the family.

Pat is very smart..has a great memory,
yet...Sister[Eleanor Cift] undoes him in a millisecond.
Pat fires back...Eleanor transfixes on Pat..the burning eye's hint at possible physical detriment if this were not a public program.
and of course..... Pats mischevious grin after the volley's.

Like a semi dysfunctional Family at the breakfast table..this program is a classic for one liners and body message language.

Father John can hardly contain himself at times..the laughter and head posturing..

"So Pat....where you ever a Boy Scout"?

"Exit question...on a scale of 1-10...10 being the fall of Pompeii.....Eleanor will jump Pat upstairs before bedtime"

The very premise of the article--'empire'--is defective.

Trouble is, I can't tell if Buchanan is being deliberately devious or just is dumb as bag of Sakrete.

The President's PC FALLUJA strategy is FUBAR
It appears he does not have the strength to stay the course and do what needs to be done in order to fight this fight, WIN THIS WAR and gain the victory. Instead, like VIETNAM, the administration is more concerned about PC "politics" and reduced to half and quarter measures.

Our generals and boots on the field have to fight this war with one or both hands tied behind their backs so as to not offend the "Arab street". The terrorists in FALLUJA have proclaimed their "VICTORY" and Aljazera is broadcasting it all over the world. Putting a Bathist "general" in charge of rounding up Bathist terrorists is the height of STUPIDITY. Don't tell me there is a "plan", there ain't no "plan" they are trying to make this up as they go along and it STINKS!

As a Vietnam Vet, I am ASHAMED, it is like we have learned NOTHING from the lessons of Korea, Vietnam and the half-won Gulf War I. I believe we have about 2 weeks to straighten this mess out before it is genuinely FUBAR. If we lose in FALLUJA, we lose. America will be proven a "paper tiger" easily tamed and restrained by the threats of "The Arab street" and offending the world and the UN.

What has happened to the resolve the President once possessed and proclaimed when he stood before Congress and proclaimed his determination to do whatever it took to win the war on terrorism?

Pat Buchanan-
Someone who has forgotten 9/11 and the Islamofascism across all the countries of the Middle East that brought it about. This handwringing about "empire" is nuts. And Fallujah may be the high water mark, not because Americans were afraid to lose the dozens of casualties we would have lost - or shrink from shedding the blood of thousands of Iraqi fighters and civilians - but because our "leaders" got wobbly afraid that we would. We should make it clear to them: Buck up. Turn around now before it is too late and get the job done.

Or we will not forgive you.
