TERROR BY TANKER

SOMEONE made a 44-foot gasoline tanker disappear from a South Jersey parking lot earlier this month. And it wasn't magician David Copperfield.

According to the FBI and a New Jersey state coun- terterrorism team, the stolen vehicle (New Jersey license plates: T852SC) can hold 9,200 gallons of fuel. It was empty when it vanished from the TK Transport Terminal in Pennsauken, N.J., around April 8. The state counterterrorism office informed me this week that they have "nothing new to report" on the case.

Wasn't there another tanker that 'disappeared' in Ohio or Indiana a week or so ago? Also, I remember an article (forgot the details) about 6 or so tankers that were searched recently in some western state.

FBI issued a four-state alert for two "Middle Eastern-looking men" after a fuel tanker driver reported that a Dodge Neon tried to force him off the road in Georgia.

I used to have a certain grudging respect for the intelligence of these terrorists.

But to try to force a 18 wheeler off the road with a Neon?

Where is your head man?!

These things are expensive. I'm kind of surprised that the owner's don't install some kind of homing device. Lojack for tankers? Should be easy and fairly cheap to implement.

I don't know how healthy al-queada is in the US right now. I would guess that their operational abilities are somewhat limited. But several simultaneous (suicide) tanker attacks on vulnerable targets like refineries, power plants, and the like would create havoc.

I doubt, however, that AQ has those kind of human resources in the US right now. Maybe a single attack at most.

And remember, Cody Jarrett's gang used a tanker truck to infiltrate the refinery for the payroll job in "White Heat".

Actually I think it very appropriate to their world view. It is analagous to fighting the US...they don't honestly think they could beat us...they think we won't actually be willing to fight. They counted on the tanker going off the road to avoid an accident...even one with a Neon. I hope they (Islamists with the warped worldview) figure out their warped worldview is the problem before we have to slaughter them all.

"FBI spokeswoman Linda Vizi insists: "We have no intelligence that there
is any imminent threat here." "

Hmmm...the FBI was the same organization that eventually froze out their
agent O'Neill ("The Man Who Knew") that tried to get anyone who'd listen to take
Osama seriously - for six years.

Still one of the great ironies of all times that O'Neill left the FBI, got a
good job at the World Trade Center...and perished on 9-11.

I drive a Neon and got forced off the road by a large dog. An 18 wheeler - it boggels the mind.

The company says the tanker was empty.

-snip-

Pennsauken Police Capt. Earl Griffin said that only the trailer— left unhitched at the company parking lot— is missing.

-snip-

Griffin also noted that the recently refurbished trailer has some parts that are of value, including new wheels, tires, and suspension.

-snip-

Trailer theft is common in the area but this is the first time he recalls an instance of a tanker theft, Griffin added.

When they steal a tractor and trailer hauling jet fuel, phenol, or some other nasty substance it's time to worry. It's just as easy to steal a loaded trailer as an empty one. If they want to do damage with a trailer full of fuel, chemicals, or whatever, why would they steal an empty trailer, and then try to find something to fill it with?

... why would they steal an empty trailer, and then try to find something to fill it with?

I think the answer to that is that these Jihadi suicide freaks are dumber than a bag of kitty litter.

* In 1996, a tanker truck loaded with at least 5,000 pounds of plastic explosives barreled through the Khobar Towers residential complex in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia, killing 19 American servicemen.

* In April 2002, a gas tanker truck crashed into a Tunisian synagogue, killing 21 people.

I in no way mean to demean the tragedy of these deaths or the resolve we should have in hunting down the terrorists but ... two American teenagers with a pair of 9mm's and a pair of 12 gauges can do more damage than that in an afternoon for about 1/1,000th the cost and near zero risk in the planning stages. These towel headed terror monkeys are redefining the term 'braindead.'

I see what you mean. I could come up with some easy, inexpensive, and highly effective terror attacks. Good thing the terrorists are too stupid to think of them.

There was a hazmat truck missing in New Jersey October 18, 2001. Only one month after 9-11. I thought you might be interested in reading the discussion from back then. I have included a link below.

I believe truckers have been a big help in fighting terrorism by keeping their eyes out for anything unusual and reporting it. Although its two years later, we cannot let our guard down.

With the price of gasoline as it is, maybe the tanker is going to be used for the black market. But can anyone really take the chance that it could be used as a "missile"? Trucking companies and owners have to take greater responsibility with security of these tankers.

I'm sure it's easier said than done, but our world has changed.
