So what we know is this: he escaped from his captors, he was 100 miles from where he was taken, he got to safety and he's in good health.
I can't even begin to imagine the relief and joy his family feels.

Reuters news link (doesn't say he escaped; makes it sound like he was released):
Sun May 2, 2004 07:07 AM ET
BAGHDAD (Reuters) - U.S. hostage Thomas Hamill is free three weeks after television pictures showed him being driven away by armed men following an attack on a convoy in Iraq, the U.S. military said Sunday.

If I remember correctly, he is a former dairy farmer who sold out because of financial problems, and his wife is recovering from heart surgery. He took the job to get his family back on their feet financially.
I hope this guy gets a book deal out of this. He deserves it!

shouldn't the title say "Escaped" instead of "Released"- just nitpicking.

He was in Tikrit; walked up to troops and IDed himself, according to CNN.

That about sums it up so far. Kimmit did say Hammil walked out of a building and identified himself to US troops.

Meant to tell you...Chris Wallace's show is seen twice a day. In the morning, it is on your local Fox Station (here in Indy it's Channel 59 but I don't know for your area what that would be). In the late afternoon/evening it is re-run on the Fox News cable station.

Thanks be to God, indeed!
And if I might add---a welcome relief from all the depressing hand wringing that's been going on around here lately.
Great news and God bless him and his family.

It says simply "free from captors" because the details were so thin when I posted it. Kimmil's presser lasted about 30 seconds. I hope he DID escape, can't wait to hear his story.
