According to the AP story in the NYT, he led the troops back to the building where he was being held and they captured two of his captors. He also has an infected gunshot wound in his arm.

Actually, KBR is a subsidiary of Halliburton. KBR employees and management refer to it as "KBR" and rarely as "Halliburton." Not out of any desire to disassociate, it's just that there are so many subsidiaries and KBR is probably the most prominent among them.

Abviouslly there was no will to level Fallujah with air power and jarheads proved to be unable to take Fallujah in an ground assault, hence the deal with with our newest member of the coalition of the willing, the Ba'athists.

You missed the point of my remarks and then went off on a tangent. As far as the Marines being unable to take Fallujah, I think you are dead wrong. It was a political decision, not a military one to take the city by force. The Marines had a kill ratio of more than 10 to 1. They would have isolated and destroyed the enemy if they had been let off the leash. Make no mistake about that.

Very interesting statement. If this is authentic, it definitely means that the turning over of (part of) Fallujah to the former Baathist general was a clever stroke. One of the problems of the Iraqi Governing Council is that they seem to be heavily Shiite and it seems to me that they are beginning to regard Iraq as automatically belonging to them (note the gentleman from the "Supreme Council for Islamic Revolution in Iraq"). Saddam and most of his head honchos were Sunnis, so perhaps this will provide a counterweight.

It will be interesting to find out what Hamill might have found about the situation during his capitivity.
